Bungee cords as mentioned above.
Doing a Rumba, on a revolving platform, with the judges throwing buckets of water over the dancers.
The Quickstep on a greased runway
Argentine Tango dressed as a giant troll.

Obviously Stuart Hall is not available to commentate, but they guy who plays Rory in Mrs Browns Boys does nothing but laugh hysterically at anything - so he would be great at adding "colour".”

The above two "suggestions did make me laugh!

Would you REALLY want to watch a show in which Ed's Balls are barely covered???

What about Oscar Winners Week where all the music has won the gong for Best Original Song? There are some cracking choices that could be used here....

As others have suggested Old School Strictly week where everyone wears gorgeous dresses, tails and men in proper trousers with traditional music. Half the couples dance the same Ballroom dance, half the same Latin for comparison. Pro dances with no props.

I do like Musicals and Halloween weeks.

Musicals/Movie week is the only one that really works. I can just about bear Halloween week.

Other than that theme weeks are atrocious.

Really like Halloween week and Movie week is not bad.

I'm not sure that anything else really works, the worst was probably Around the World week. But they don't affect my enjoyment of the show.

2016 obviously a poignant year - but so much music choice.
Bowie, Eagles, ELP, Prince, Earth Wind & Fire.

Someone could even try a Charleston to Victoria Wood's "Let's Do It".
By someone I obviously mean Lesely Joseph !!!”

Just don't let Naga get the Prince song (lol).

A week with tv theme tunes might be great (will have to think about some options).

I will watch almost any dance as long as there is a full top-to-toe shot of the dancers, so that we don't miss a thing that they are doing on the dance floor!

Dance fusion week.

Celebrity must be shot from a cannon.
Pro must arrive via a crane.
Dance must include mechanical bull riding section.
Couples must dance with a balloon between them - and not burst it.
Include a limbo bar that they must pass under.
Lubricate the floor - like a bowling alley, and have backing 'dancers' bowling down pins at the other end of the floor.

Or maybe dance the 10 dances the way they are supposed to be danced.

Was with you all the way until the last sentance. That's not going to happen in a month of Sunday's

How about two them weeks spread out within the series -

'Celeb Choice' - where the celebrities get to choose the music they dance to
'Pro Choice' - well, you get the idea...

I like theme weeks providing there aren't too many, otherwise it becomes the norm and kills the anticipation and excitement around it, ie. "Oh, another theme week, alright".

I also wouldn't mind if the pros and celebs had more creative freedom and input themselves. It was rumoured at the time that Scott was less than happy to dress as a crab and Ola wasn't happy withe the idea of a cowboy Paso either. But overall, I'm not against the idea of them, they are needed to shake up things a bit. Just not too many and no silly themes, please.

Themes are the equivalent of being drunk - the producers can deliver a load of tripe and it will be forgiven, because IT'S Theme Week!

Anyway, if you can't produce something better, produce something different. It works.

Sometimes it does, sometimes it really doesn't

How about a week where the professionals get carte blanche to choose their own theme, music, choreography, costume etc rather than having to take responsibility for daft ideas by producers who don't seem to know any better.

I quite like the 'it's a knockout' idea but perhaps keep this for the judges' entrance!

It's usually the opposite - Theme Weeks as a whole get written off as a steaming pile, and people deny deny deny the fact that props and staging can make a performance more enjoyable and memorable. Even the much-maligned Around The World week produced Caroline's Charleston and decent-to-great Viennese Waltzes by both Pixie and Simon. Even Mark's salsa wasn't unenjoyable in a "lashings of cheese" sort of way.

I don't write them off completely - because as you say, there are a lot of very entertaining dances which come from the themes - especially Halloween.
eg Louis and Flavia's Tango, which I linked earlier.
There are also a lot of failures, but they are considered less of a disaster because it's Theme Week.

Part of the success of some Theme week dances is via less strict adherence to the rules.

Memorable, yes. It's a lot easier to remember something when there's a different or peculiar aspect about it. But when it goes wrong we'll remember it for all the wrong reasons (which is part of the fun too, most obvs). Who can forget Jake knocking the Greek waitress and the bleeding teapot getting in Georgia's way? Jamelia stepping on the guitar case (talking about props gone here)?

But I agree with you that theme weeks can produce some real gems like Michelle's Timewarp, Scott and Natalie's Viennese Waltz (be still my beating heart, it still gives me goosebumps!), and from last year I adore Anita and Gleb's Maleficent Waltz (something about Halloween and Waltzes perhaps).

Bond week.
Amazed they didn't do it 2012.
They've had clearance for lots of songs.
Top of my head (need Monkseal dammit) they've had:
Live and let die (Pash and Caz, Letitia and Darren)
View to a kill (Anton and Fiona)
Writing's on the wall (Gio and Georgia)
GoldenEye (Karen and Mark, Colin and Kristina)
Goldfinger (Iveta and other Mark, Denise/Ian)
From Russia with love (Darren/Lilia Kara/Artem)
James Bond theme (Scott and Nat)
License to kill (Ricky and Erin)
Skyfall (Nicky and Karen)

Personally I'd love to see routines to
Diamonds are forever
You know my name
Die another day (Brendan tango)

So yeah, all the blokes in tuxes
All the women in to die for dresses or catsuits
Random props: chairs, poker/roulette tables, martini glasses

Len saying OO Sev-en!!! again
Bruno being left stirred not shaken
Guns jokes (both erection on here and muscle on stage)

What's not to like?

Also, would not mind personally but know others might switch off:

Abba week
Beatles week
Elvis week
Madonna week
Stones week

Any of those five. Enough there for slow and fast routines and most have had a track or two used already so band does not have to learn all new songs.

Plus only Mark ands Karen's GoldenEye is "iconic"
There's also another 15 songs to choose from.
Thanks to Ultimate Strictly Songs for the gap fills.
