Transfer number from one contract to another on 3

My three contract is due to finish in September but have been told I can upgrade in August with no early upgrade charges.

I purchased a new pay monthly contract sim yesterday (good half price deal but missed quidco!). My intention is to keep my mobile number and transfer it to the pay monthly sim.

The problem is I have been told I can't just transfer it. I have to got to a payg sim then transfer it to pay monthly sim. So do I have to go to another payg provider and port in and out or can the payg sim be with three? I have been told it will take 30 days to go over to payg so I need to get my timings right or I will lose money.

Can anyone advise the best way of doing this please?

As far as I'm aware you would have to port to another network and then port back in. I don't think a PAC works within the same network.

Not sure on the 30 day thing though, I've done it before in less time. I ported to a PAYG Sim, waited until the port was complete and a couple more days to make sure then rang up and asked for a PAC. Ported back to my previous network with no problems.

I know someone who recently ported from a personal EE account, to his employers' business EE account, I don't know whether the process used a PAC code, but it was a total shambles with about 48 hrs worth of chaos

Spoken with three again today. I only need to convert my contract to a payg at the end of the contract. I can then transfer the number across. Have to give 30 days notice to do it but that's ok.
