Ho. Ly. Shit.
I don't think Abraham was a surprise to many, but kudos on offing Glen as well. I definitely didn't see that coming. Guess his luck finally ran out.
When it came to Rick choping Carl's arm off, I did think the show had gone way OTT, but in hindsight, I think they did it brilliantly. They ratcheted up the tension until it became un-bearable, then gave us the relief that it wasn't really going to happen.
I do have some negatives. Negan, for me, is just
too evil and crazed, to the point that it's difficult to see where the show can go with this storyline. They've establised that he will not tolerate any further dissent
whatsoever, so either Rick and co. will have to be sub-serviant in every way from here on in, or someone new will die horribly every week. Obviously it's not going to be the latter, so do we really want to see the group going on food/ ammo/ medicine/ whatever runs just to hand it over to Negan? It's an ineresting shift in the dynamic of the show, as Negan went to great pains to point out (jeez, does that guy like the sound of his own voice. I get they want to get their money's worth out of JDM, but still...) but I'm not sure it'll be that 'entertaining' to watch.
I didn't like the fantasy sequence of most of the rest of the group having their heads bashed in. I didn't know what that was about. Was it Rick imagining what might be going on in his absence, or was he running through future scenarios if he doesn't comply? Whatever it was, it was a very cheap shot, clearly designed to make us think that most, if not all, of the group had been slaughtered.

I agree, I was asking much the same thing last season. There seems to be two types of people under his control. Those in his army, who are just as psychopathic, given half a chance, as Negan is, and those who 'just' work for him, as Rick and co. now do. Obviously we know why the latter type work for him. It'll be interesting to see if they explore the brain-washing that makes his army so loyal. Kill or be killed is too simplistic.
