Watched the premiere on Fox early this morning and will say I did actually guess the 1st death, but didn't expect the second

Negan absolutely bossed that episode, totally power hungry and psychotic and it will be interesting to see his continuing rise and eventual fall if or when it happens....I do wonder if we will get a backstory with Negan

Will go into more detail on this episode when the rest who didn't catch the premiere early this morning on various links and Fox, watch tonight on Fox

Same with me - after Daryll, Abraham was the one I didn't want to lose, but the one that I most expected it to be, and sadly I was right

Glenn I'd tired off quite a bit TBH, so I'd have preferred it to have just been him since Abraham's death didn't really seem to register with either the fans or the group once Glenn was done.

I agree with the logic of Negan taking-out Abraham (and separating them from Daryll) to weaken the group, and leave Rick so devastated. It's interesting that Maggie might be the one pushing for revenge rather than Rick given that he still has Carl and Judith to lose.

I caught the premiere purely by chance. I was looking for a live stream and was channel hopping here in the UK and went to Fox and it was just beginning.

I didn't see it advertised as coming on at that time and wonder if they changed the scheduling. I will have to check my TV magazine tonight.

As for the episode itself - I had heard rumours that there was more than one casualty and so I wasn't surprised but I was surprised who the second victim was.

I have decided to watch it again tonight. I'm sure I missed a lot last night and had to have the sound down quite low so as not to disturb others in the flat.

Does anybody know if this is going to be a regular thing or was it just a one off?

Sorry it this has been asked already - I'm at work and don't have time to read back through the thread at the moment.

I have it ready to watch but will fast forward if I do watch it. I think Daryl was a good choice in plot development. He will be broken down in a different way because Negan wants him as a soldier. I think most fans want him to kill Dwight and the best way to do that is to 'pretend' to be part of the team.

Why? Just out of interest.

I've just watched it again (it's available on demand on NOW TV, so I suspect it will be on Sky as well). Just as brutal the second time around, even when I knew what was coming.

The axe thing is obvious as well, you even hear the sound of it hitting the roof - although it almost happened in the background so it's understandable that this could have been missed on first viewing and like I did at first just assumed he'd thrown it outside.

Was it a last minute decision by fox to show the premiere at 2:30 in the morning? Not once did i see it advertised that it was going to happen. So was surprised to find it recorded on my Sky box this afternoon.

Wow, what an episode, yes very gory indeed but what acting on everyone's part, all of them played it absolutely brilliant, make up was fantastic, if you are going to die in a program like this then I guess that's the way you want to do it!

I didn't like the blood dripping and the bits of flesh hanging of the bat after Glen's death though!

Looking forward to seeing how the story progresses from here!

Somebody put on my Facebook on Friday, otherwise I wouldn't have known.

They have started with Negan's back story in comic book form.

Why is he so fond of Lucille ?

Spoiler
His Wife was called Lucille before she died of cancer and turned in the Hospital, it was that point the apocalypse started for him. It is noteable that the Apocalypse started for Rick and Negan in an Hospital.

There was a moment of realisation for Rick as he turned and saw the Hanger.

There being a second victim wasn't altogether surprising but I'd expected it to be one of the lesser characters and not someone who's been there from the beginning (I don't read the comic books and the TV series hasn't been strictly following those anyway)
g!”

Negan flicked his bat and rick got hit with the shrapnel, however its unfortunate cos the sneak peek and theory led us to believe that it came from a victim therefore to Ricks right.

Oh that was very traumatic

I'm not one for being squeamish but those deaths were horribly, horribly brutal

Looking forward to seeing where TWD takes us this series...

Having not read the comics and purposely staying away from anything even hinting at season 7, at first I was like oh is that it, I can live with that and then BAM poor Glenn got whacked. Sad to lose him as he's been there from the start and gone through it all. As Negan put it, there's no happy endings in this world.

The suspense throughout the episode was brilliant, Negan is everything you want in a sadistic badass, he makes the Guv look tame by comparison. That scene with Rick and Carl!

The only low point is now we've got a season of Maggie in mourning.

Ho. Ly. Shit.

I don't think Abraham was a surprise to many, but kudos on offing Glen as well. I definitely didn't see that coming. Guess his luck finally ran out.

When it came to Rick choping Carl's arm off, I did think the show had gone way OTT, but in hindsight, I think they did it brilliantly. They ratcheted up the tension until it became un-bearable, then gave us the relief that it wasn't really going to happen.

I do have some negatives. Negan, for me, is just too evil and crazed, to the point that it's difficult to see where the show can go with this storyline. They've establised that he will not tolerate any further dissent whatsoever, so either Rick and co. will have to be sub-serviant in every way from here on in, or someone new will die horribly every week. Obviously it's not going to be the latter, so do we really want to see the group going on food/ ammo/ medicine/ whatever runs just to hand it over to Negan? It's an ineresting shift in the dynamic of the show, as Negan went to great pains to point out (jeez, does that guy like the sound of his own voice. I get they want to get their money's worth out of JDM, but still...) but I'm not sure it'll be that 'entertaining' to watch.

I didn't like the fantasy sequence of most of the rest of the group having their heads bashed in. I didn't know what that was about. Was it Rick imagining what might be going on in his absence, or was he running through future scenarios if he doesn't comply? Whatever it was, it was a very cheap shot, clearly designed to make us think that most, if not all, of the group had been slaughtered.

I agree, I was asking much the same thing last season. There seems to be two types of people under his control. Those in his army, who are just as psychopathic, given half a chance, as Negan is, and those who 'just' work for him, as Rick and co. now do. Obviously we know why the latter type work for him. It'll be interesting to see if they explore the brain-washing that makes his army so loyal. Kill or be killed is too simplistic.

I thought it would be Abraham which to be honest I won't miss too much, I am gutted about Glenn though, even I'm kinda at annoyed at Daryl for doing what he did

Also I've only just watched it and even I felt a bit sick after which I don't usually TWD is the only show that makes me feel so tense.

Yes that's the problem I see with how the show can go on from here.

Negan said to Rick, think about what will happen and that was finally what snapped Rick back into action to retrieve the axe, by running through the consequences in his mind.

It was shown at this time for the whole of the last series, so we see it at the same time, just about, as USA.

You're probably right, although that sequence happens after Rick has already retrieved the axe and is fighting his way back to the RV. I think that's why I didn't connect it with Rick considering what would happen if he didn't get it.

Good episode but, I feel like it's been so long since we've last seen Rick and company that the Negan kill spree lost some of it's impact. Like, if this had come at the end of last season it would have hit harder because I had just spent time with those characters (Negan's victims). But because it's been awhile, I was less familiar and less attached then I would have been.

Ratings not out yet, but according to this it got 318,655 viewers in central Florida compared to 236,274 for the final episode of season 6. That is a 34.87% increase if my maths is right.

If it increases by that much nationally it will get a little over 19.1 million nationally. 17.3 million is its highest ever rating.

Is this the video that was going around online last night?

Did they film a death scene for all of them?

Negan comes round at the end of Week 1 to collect his 50%. Oh, look, Carol's baked him a beautiful cake in the shape of a baseball bat, with raspberry jam icing and everything. Won't you try a bit right now, Mr Negan.....

LOL. Sounds entirely plausible to me. Or maybe it'll be, 'Swinging that bat around all day must make you awfully thirsty Mr Negan. Would you care for a refreshing glass of home made lemonade? It's not poisoned or anything'.
