Anyway, from what we've seen, although Negan is someone who might kill all males over the age of 10, he isn't someone who would then turn the women into playthings. Allowing them to continue living in their community, giving up 50% of what they produce as before, is consistent with his MO. He would not have let them keep weapons, but they could have found those after they left.
There's nothing stopping Rick from doing the same thing. Nobody was monitoring Hilltop or noticed Maggie. Nobody noticed that Carl and Enid left Alexandria. Nobody would notice if Rick took his group and fled as far aware from the Saviours as he could. He'd have to find a new base, but that's doable. If he'd done it the day after Glenn was killed, he could have taken all the weapons, too. The idea that Alexandria has no choice other than to submit to Negan's rule just isn't true. Same with Hilltop and the Kingdom. If they all just fled, the Saviours would be in serious trouble given that they depend on the tribute.”
bib - I would say that this latest episode shows clearly that Negan is definitely into rape, despite all his claptrap about the women being with him willingly - obviously they are there through fear, not desire to be with him. He DOES use them as playthings, his own little harem.
I agree with you in theory that Rick & Co could have just left the very next day after the events with Negan from the first episode, but I think we have to take into account that they are human, would be in shock after the deaths, would have a baby to take care of, that several of their group aren't there and they would want them with them - all sorts of factors. Then Negan came a few days early, so even if they had been planning to leave he surprised them.

Personally it was the worst episode of the season to me, watching an ego walking around amidst all his servants, spouting off like a bored teenager - which is what he strikes me as, bored. Doesn't know what to do with himself now that he's set himself up in his own little kingdom, desperate for entertainment. Plus, boy does he love the sound of his own voice.
I don't like the character - he has no character, he's a joke of a character really - one-dimensional (so far) with absolutely no depth. It's tedious to watch.
This is the first time I've ever moaned about the series; I just found tonight's episode (or at least the parts with Negan in) tedious.
As for the rest of the episode, the women who have lost somebody they love to Negan's bat (and I include Michonne in that as I think she feels she's lost Rick in some ways, or at least the Rick he was) using their anger in a more constructive way.
I think Tara, Michonne, Rosita, Maggie, Sasha and (hopefully) Carol will be the ones who motivate the rest to act.
