I am in my fifties and have quite a few lines wrinkles and open pores. Also I am very white. I am looking for a foundation that won't drift across my face and merge in my lines and pores. Also I don't want to look orange or beige, just the colour I actually am. What I am looking for is a finish that removes some of the lines and doesn't look shiny, nice and Matt. Any recommendations?

Try Lancome Miracle Air de Teint - I'm very pale also and use 005 Beige Ivoire.

I apply over a Lancome or Clinique Primer which really stops it sinking into pores or lines, especially if you apply with a flat topped brush - I am a recent convert to the Sigma F80, it really makes a ton of difference

I got mine off Ebay for half that price though!

I use about 6 drops of foundation onto the flat top of the brush , dab/stipple all over my face then buff into the skin

I was converted by seeing this tutorial

Lancome Teint Miracle is also good for older skin. I use "010 Beige Porcelaine" (despite the name (Beige), it's a lovely creamy ivory and definitely not yellow).

I am in my 70s with a line across forehead, a couple of lines on outer edges of eyes and age spots. I use Monsia Skincare ever since it was given to me as a present in Dec 2014 I love it to bitts. I use Boots #7 Stay Perfect foundation. Pop in to your Boots store they will put a gizmo to your face to select the best colour. Mine matches my skin perfectly. I returned to the UK in 1988 and Boots was my first stop and this is the first foundation that has matched my olive skin tone w/o looking "caked".

I mentioned that I use Monsia Skincare - they have an advice section which may or may not help you here is the link:

or just Google the question

I had a darker spot on my cheek which darkened and increased to the size of my smallest fingernail. I had it checked out just in case and the doctor said it was just a "solar lentigo" aka age spot.

I used a basic concealer on it - just Rimmel's Hide The Blemish - under my usual foundation, and amazingly after a few months the dark spot had disappeared. This was several years ago, and it hasn't come back. I don't know if there's something magical about Hide The Blemish, but it might be worth a try.

My GP told me it is a buildup of melanin. Thanks for the info, I'll pop into Boots next week and look for Rimmel's Hide the Blemish, mine is greatly reduced already so it should disappear, I'll keep my fingers crossed!!

No guarantees! But that was all I used that was different. I was only looking to blend it in with the rest of my skin, never expected it to disappear altogether. Hope it works for you.

Cheers everyone. Just an update. I bought the Lancôme as suggested also a powder, and was talked into buying the foundation brush to apply it. What a revaluation! It really does the business! The brush helps by about 200%. So natural and light and stays the day. So thanks every one.

Boots No.7 Beautifully Matte - really good coverage and stays put all day. Ask the lady in Boots for your colour.

I am in my 60s and definitely don't have 'old lady skin'. Seriously I think the key to that is wearing as little foundation as possible. Having worked overseas where foundation was not the norm, it was horrible coming back here and seeing all the painted on faces. People don't look half as natural as they think they do
Your skin will thank you for not slathering chemicals all over it - though it is possibly too late now for your skin to recover.
A bit of blusher and under eye concealer is what does it for me.
The two people with the best skin I have ever have ever seen have never worn make up and their skin is wonderful.

I don't know if "overseas" was a hot country where of course foundation isn't needed. I personally see lots of blotchy, grey, open-pored and loose skin on faces which have never been touched by make-up. I doubt that wearing make-up leads to horrible skin and not wearing it leads to wonderful skin, unless you have research to back that up? In fact Joan Collins thought that the process of putting on makeup every day was what helped her skin to age so well (that and genetics of course!).

"Joan has always declared that make-up is good for the skin, that it protects and nurtures. None of that ‘let your skin breathe’ spiel for her. ‘I’m often amazed,’ she wrote in 2011’s The World According To Joan, ‘when some lined, red-faced, blotchy-skinned woman proudly announces to me that she’s never allowed an ounce of make-up to touch her face. Well, bully for you, ma’am, if you want to go to the grave looking like Dracula’s grandma.’"

Of course there is a certain skill in choosing and applying foundation and the OP seems to have discovered it now so well done to her!

Oh yes, and this. Has it occurred to you that they were naturally blessed with such perfect skin that they never needed to wear make up?

I was given some YSL foundation in beige and it's lovely. I also have some Boots No 7 foundation in beige. I might ask for some Lancôme as a gift when I run out. I have quite red skin and wear foundation to go out. I also like MAC Paint Pot eye shadow as a primer, Soft Ochre is the colour.
