Around the World theme week
CBFreak
24-07-2016
I'm thinking about an Around the World theme week for a weeks worth of shopping. Namely having a different meal every day of the week based upon different cuisines.

So far I have Fajitas (Mexico) and Spaghetti bolgonese (Italy) as possibles along with Sushi but the sushi is more like a snack then a main meal.

Any ideas? Oh and my budget is limited.

Brie baguette and onion soup (France)

Lentil curry and rice (India/Sri Lanka, depending on what type of lentils you use)

Jerk chicken, rice and peas (Jamaica). Walkerswood and Dunn's River do very good jerk paste in a jar.

Grilled, marinated chicken, pitta bread, salad, hummus (Turkey)

Ok, you're on a budget and you need four more.
Chinese and Indian takeaways = 2 more.
(I'm assuming you can't cook)
A bucket of KFC and a litre of Coke = American.
1 more.
Frogs' legs and snails - France.
As you're on a budget catch your own frogs and snails.
Sorted!

I wouldn't call it much of a week though 😕

Toby, your posts are very rarely helpful. When I see your name I always expect sarcasm and am rarely disappointed.

For the OP.
Any sort of stir fry. My favourite is strips of beef marinated in soy sauce and chilli, with stir fried veg. Quick and easy and an Asian theme.

Not to mention pretty insulting, slightly superior and never, ever funny.

An Indian vegetable curry would be cheap and easy.

And maybe a jambalaya.

I agree unfortunately.

It was like seeing an embarassing uncle trying to impress the "youngsters" with his witty retorts. Maybe now the poster will understand how he comes accross.

Sometimes it is kinder to be cruel!

Moules mariniere with French bread. Massive bowlful to share. Lots of mess and slurping. No manners for a few minutes. Great.

Oh Yesssss

On a slight tangent, I've had moules twice this year in London restaurants, and neither served it with bread. We had to ask for it. With a dish like this it should be automatically included.

Spiced lamb koftes in grilled flatbread with tzatziki, red onion, tomatoes, red cabbage and cous cous on the side.

Slow cooked chunky chilli with sour cream and nachos. Secret is to cook for ages and add a little bit of chocolate.

Slow cooked chinese pork belly (soy, honey, garlic, 5 spice etc) with sticky rice and steamed pak choi

Moroccan chicken tagine with cous cous

Bbq pork ribs or chicken with loaded potato skins and coleslaw

All of these would be pretty cheap as they are cheaper cuts.

Congee

It's basically a rice soup where the rice is overcooked to get the right texture for the soup.
