Which current actors in the soaps could you see progressing to TV dramas etc. Kylie is a past character now (CS) but I could see Paula Lane doing well, maybe Alison King too, but for the ones starring in soaps currently, I'd say;
Emmerdale Zoe Henry (Rhona) Eden Taylor-Draper (Belle) Michael Parr (Ross) Coronation Street Melanie Hill (Cathy) Catherine Tyldsley (Eva) Do you agree with the above? What others would you add? What about the other soaps?

Slim pickings in soap world, if you ask me. The soaps have some great actors at the moment, but no one so obviously better than the usual that you'd expect them to make it else where. Which I'm very glad about!

Jane Danson is most certainly capable, can't think of any other current Corrie ones, though Cath Tyldesley could, as you say be one to watch!!
Incidentally I would include Georgia Taylor & Joanne Froggatt in the list with Sarah & Suranne already!! |

The only UK soap I watch is EastEnders. Off the top of my head I am struggling to think of anyone who could really have a big career afterwards. A lot of people raved about Charlie Brooks and nothing's really happened there since she left. Danielle Harold was great for such a young actress, I really hope she does well. Jamie Borthwick is the strongest young male on the show so maybe he'd be better of leaving unless he's got some good storylines coming up. The young females now aren't the best they've had but I would say Shona McGarty is the most likely to be the most versatile actress.

Catherine Tyldsley is OK for all she does in Corrie, she was awful in Emmerdale. Melanie Hill is already well established. |

Paula Lane who's just left Corrie is a possibility.

Emmerdale
Michael Parr Eastenders Jamie Borthwick Coronation Street Paula Lane Michael Parr I agree has something extra. Jamie Borthwick isn't even in the top tier of EE actors. Don't watch Corrie so can't comment on Paul Lane. |

Hollyoaks' Anna Passey (Sienna). I think she could have a very sucessful career ahead of her in films and other TV projects. Maybe as Fantine in the BBC production of Les Miserables which shoots next year?

Zoe Henry, although quite competent, did very little between her times on Emmerdale, apart from the usual Holby City, Corrie, EE, Doctors etc.

Fizz and Tyrone are decent, but they get poor material. If they left the cobbles for LA I could see them making it big.

Well Lacey Turner seem to be setting up a fairly good career for herself before she went back to the square. Admittedly Our Girl (a drama filled with well regarded actors) was the only hit but she wasn't short of work and she got good reviews for the witch thing even if the show didn't. And she was given a really important guest role in Being Human.
Not really sure why she's still in EastEnders... |

In order to be on the same scale asSarah Lancashire or Suranne Jones then they will have to leave their respective soap and establish themselves as more than just a soap actor when they are well under 40.
In EastEnders I would say say James Bye has the potential to do very well for himself when he eventually decides to leave. |

Should Shaun Dooley be in the original list of post-soap successes?
He was only in 29 episodes of EE but I still remember his character and if you don't what he's been in look him up on IMDB. |

As with Lacey Turner, Jessie Wallace was another who was doing well before she returned. She'd just received a bafta nomination for playing Pat Phoenix and had done several pieces of critically acclaimed work. I never understood why she returned either.

I forgot to mention Samantha Giles (Bernice in Emmerdale) I think that she will go on to other roles after Emmerdale.

Zoe Henry popped out a few kids in that time also, so can maybe be forgiven for not workng like a pack horse
Sadly though, it seems to be the case, ss other FM s have pointed out, that f you don't t establish a post soap career well before 40 you won't t make it, such seems to be the attitude in that line of work. I' m not surprised actors in such a competitive and cruel industry stay in soaps. |
