What do you think was EastEnders' lowest point?
I started a similar thread with Corrie, so thought I'd do the same with EE.
For me, it would have to be the January - October period of 2013. It was just insulting to viewers and absolutely nothing happened. All the good/great characters were leaving or had gone, and the show was at rock bottom. How it didn't receive its lowest ever figures in this era is beyond me. 2004 & 2006 were pretty bad, but at least it had elements of Classic EastEnders. They were nowhere near as bad as the 2013 period. |

I'm in the minority but between the years of 1997 and 1998 was the first period when the show took an long awful nosedive in quality. Absolutely despised that period with a passion.

Quite surprised with this, as a lot of people look back on these years as 'Golden Years'. What made you dislike the era so much?

In general 2011-13 was the absolute pits, but the summer of 2012 and "we love you Kat Moon" was when it really hit rock bottom.

Late 2006 - Mid 2007 for me.
What they did to Pauline before killing her off was unforgivable, then the ridiculous death of Joe Macer that followed, and the Rob/Dr May/Dawn rubbish. There was just nothing good about the show at that time (although the Sean vs Jake Moon plot was watchable.) The months after the shows 30th anniversary up until around October 2015 come a close second with the Carters dominating every episode. I would have switched off if it wasn't for Kathy's return. |

Kat had some good development in 2013 and I liked the rebuilding of the Beales. There was also a smattering of good Michael/Janine moments that year and Tanya got a decent exit. So I wouldn't say 2013 personally.
I'd go with bass's nomination - the summer of 2012 was just dreadful with the beginning of Kat's affair. That storyline was saved only by a good reveal episode but sitting through that godawful 'We love you Kat Moon' ep and the months of Kat meeting a shadow was like an endurance test. 2012 for me was worse than 2011, even with the three months of Moon hell in the latter, as I at least enjoyed Mandy's return, Vanessa's meltdown and Janine's granny dying that year. I would struggle to pick out 3 things I liked about 2012. |

For me Staceys recent melt down has been some of poorest most tiresome episodes to ever air. It seemed like the entire show was revolving around her and it was horrendous.

Post Live Week it has been pretty hard going at times. The constant tinkering and sometimes wholesale rewriting of established backstories has peed off a lot of viewers. Then there's been the weeks of sheer tedium on par with the worst of Newman (missing cold cuts, a snake on the loose). |

When Kat was having an affair with Derek and we were supposed to guess who it was!
I can't imagine why they thought this was a good idea as it took away all the drama and we had no insight into their feelings. It was just cheap and tacky, truly the most dreadful thing EE have ever done - even the Ferreira kidney story was better than that. |

2003-04 - That awful Ferraira family, Boots the Cat and the Cardboard Funfair
2006-07 - Pauline being killed off and prior to that, her character assassination. 2013 - The "Love and Warmth" era, and Liam's gang story that ended with Little Mix played at the end. I still laugh about that today! I didn't mind the Kat/Derek affair storyline, and I think the Christmas episode was one of the best ever. |

Even though I can't remember 2011 that much it was probably rubbish with the loss of Peggy and Stacey in 2010 and wasn't that when the Moon brothers (the next Phil & Grant!) were on the scene? *shudders*

The 2011-2013 era, just dreadful and insulting. Decent characters replaced by a cardboard cut outs of boys with six packs fighting. The Kat shagger storyline was an insult to the character and Derek Branning was a complete moron. Kirkwood and Newman had no idea what they were doing and the show became unrecogniseable. There was very little to account for during those eras to balance out the disadvantages, it became a Hollyoaks parody then during the Newman era it became like Corrie with love and warmth and nothing happened, and if it did, it was a half arsed attempt and dreadful.
Thing is though, I don't think I will ever laugh at an EE scene as I did this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3t__m-3xhY
