Thailand/Cambodia Roaming
just wondering what my options are really. I am on Three in the UK but that is going to be a killer bill for data so thinking of buying a cheap smartphone and putting a local sim in it.
Has anyone got any recommendations? Ta! |

I'd just buy a local SIM for a few pounds per week and getting a cheap phone is a good idea to in case you lose it. If you are flying into Bangkok, all of the networks have booths next to the exit doors so you can compare the deals but they are all much of a muchness. I haven't been to Cambodia in recent years but I'm sure it's the same there on arrival.
Otherwise you will find free wi-fi everywhere in Thailand (but less so in Cambodia) |

Sorry, another question, will I be able to put my Three Sim in a 2G dumb phone and will it work OK? I know three have no 2G Network in this country but do they allow to to roam on 2G in other countries?

Unless you really need to be contactable on your phone number while you are away then I'd just go for the local SIM and a cheap phone if you don't want to risk losing your normal mobile. I'd go for a cheap smartphone rather than a "dumb" phone as it's useful to have some internet access when you are travelling (Google Maps can be a lifesaver at times!) |

Err.... not sure. It would depend on the size of the SIM and what roaming agreements Three have. Some countries are also withdrawing 2G networks so you would have to check.
