i think he needs to be away from both Sharon and Shirley tbh, it never worked with Shirley in the past and it isnt really working with Sharon this time round, im not sure where else they can go with him, but i do agree that he needs a new direction

He was great as a double act with Grant, one of the best relationships we've had on the show, but without him he became just another grumpy old man who likes throwing his weight around. Failed husband, failed son and failed father. I see nothing to admire.

Actually, I think a few years as a somewhat lighter character would do him good.

I see Sharon and Phil maybe working out now since Peggy passed the reins over to Sharon as Mitchell matriarch. What I don't want to see is him cheating on Shirley and Sharon cheating on Grant when Grant isn't gonna be on the Square for too long.

Same here, right around the time he suddenly became totally invincible which became incredibly boring even before Steve Owen was severely weakened to make him look good.

One reason I liked when Dan would swat him away like a fly.

Yes, when they first came into the show grant was the hot headed psycho whilst Phil was the level headed one who kept grant under control. When grant left he just became a thug.

There's enough long lost kids already, we don't need more!

Totally. I think Steve McFadden is very good, but I do hate the fact that Phil is invincible. It is ridiculous. And we are supposed to believe that people like Steve Owen, Dan Sullivan and Johnny Allen were no match for Phil but that an OAP in a dodgy syrup managed to break him completely

Bring back dan! Awesome character, Perhaps he could take St. Jack down a peg or two as well.

well Leslie Grantham is correct to bash the writing. Like someone said above how come it was Gavin that managed to topple Phil? Really?!!!

One of the many reasons I switched off was, IMO, the writing has been poor for years.

To be fair anyone could defeat Phil.
Lock him up with alcohol and drugs and it would work.
Plus Sharon didnt seem assed.

But even Dan was not allowed to hit the Philth until Mel flicked the light switch and helped him.

Remember all of the insults Weeble had thrown at Dan and why on earth did the man-mountain need a gun in the Arches when Mitchell threatened to 'drop him'?

Dan would have torn him apart - yet again it was bad writing by TPTB to show just how invincible their little bald God was.

And in the decade and a half since things have got far, far worse.

As I have often remarked on here the scene where Philth was 'beating up' Connor in the Arches was one of the most preposterous things that I have ever seen.

The huge, massively muscled Arize moving very slowly and carefully around Steve so as not to accidentally knock him over.

It was pure comedy gold!

Hopefully soon they will announce that Phil can have a liver transplant and he will make a speedy recovery so that he can be king of Walford again, I couldn't care how ridiculous that will be, just want to see the reactions on here from all the Phil and Mitchell haters it will be hilarious.

You'd have hoped his cirrhosis and his mothers death would have helped put things into perspective for him allowing him to accept Ben and come to terms with the fact that he can't do the heavy lifting anymore.
