Nintendo NX details leak.
Some more info about Nintendo's next console and its form factor are trickling out.
It will primarily be a handheld console. It will use cartridges, up to 32GB It will have detachable control sections at each end. It will plug into your TV when at home via docking station. Uses Tegra chips. Power will be mid-way between last gen and current. System planned to be unveiled in September. |

I'm taking it with a pinch of salt for now as this is the 3rd or 4th "leak" for the NX, but interesting if true, not sure how great it'll be as a primarily portable device - I never really get on with those, but we'll see.
The thing is at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what the hardware is like, the games are what makes the console as both Nintendo (with the Wii U) and Sony (with the Playstation Vita) have had to find out the hard way, so as long the NX has some strong titles behind it, other than the endless barrage of Mario and Zelda that most Nintendo consoles have, it should do well. |

Playing it at home on tv doesn't appeal to me but a new handheld does.
Some key things though. 1. The screen needs to be good. 540p at least and Nintendo cant go cheap on this. 2. The device will need to look sexy. The gamepad looks cheap this cannot. 3. Ł249 max. Ł199 would be better but cant see it being that cheap. The Nvidia Shield is Ł150 on its own not including the gamepad. This will be more expensive than that. 4. How powerful. If it can match the Wii U then for a handheld that would be great but what will battery life be like? Will it get 3rd party support if its lacks power. |

Then what could AMDS third custom design be ?
http://wccftech.com/amd-making-processor-nintendo-nx/ Wish Nintendo would just announce the thing all ready. |

Needs the games to support it of course, that has to be the main feature for it, can't live off a gimmick without any games backing it.
I'm not keen on the power range, Nintendo don't seem to like to push the boundaries do they? So far I'm not impressed but if they decide to put a main pokemon game on it then I'll be buying it. |

Closest they got was with Colloseum for Gamecube but that had a much stronger emphasis on battling than it did actually catching and travelling around. |

If these rumours are true I think I'll pass. I don't do handheld gaming anymore and it doesn't sound like the home console bit will be anything for Sony or MS to worry about. Looks like my long Nintendo abstinence will continue.

Could be using the Tegra X2 chip, the dev kits have the Tegra X1 at the moment. The Tegra X1 is a pretty powerful chip. Will be interesting to see where this goes, I do wish Nintendo would stop messing around and make a decent no frills console though, using established hardware and Blu ray. They still haven't learnt that while all these innovations are great in theory, in practice it makes it hard for 3rd party developers to port games, so they won't bother and the console will die. Just make a powerful xbox and ps4 equivalent console, and add a bit of Nintendo Sparkle!!

Nintendo isn't keen on money either because I've been saying something along these lines regarding every console from the N64 all the way up til now and they still haven't made a 3d main-series Pokémon game.

One of the pokemon directors love the fact that pokemon is a handheld game so this could be the device they go for. But will they change things so soon after changing the engine for the 3ds?

I think Nintendo are right trying something different as we don't really need 3 powerful consoles in the market. But from what I've read and if true it hasn't really got me excited or interested, will probably get a Wii u though so I can play the new Zelda game.

^^ Trouble is they do need to make it powerful. If they don't then it will struggle to run 3rd party AAA titles, and be a PITA to port for. They then have to rely on their own published titles, and they aren't enough to sustain a modern console, look what happened to the WiiU

Also, 3DS and Wii U have a combined userbase of around 70 million. If Nintendo can match that with NX they will be very attractive to publishers, no matter how powerful the machine is. They might not get the latest COD or GTA, but they can make a big impact by distancing themselves from Sony and MS's offerings. There's little point even trying to compete directly with PS4's dominance at this time. I have a feeling the customer bases they are going for will be very different. |

If the rumours coming out are true it does look tempting. A portable device that then docks when at home, and the 2 built in controllers pop out for multiplayer, a good idea. I could see PC gamers being interested in this as their "TV console".

That's more than enough power for a handheld device. That would be a huge upgrade from the 3DS. |

So its like a Wii U gamepad that you can play on your TV?
I thought it would be a main home console. I'm concerned it won't be powerful enough.

I thought it would be a main home console. The Vita with PSTV can be played on the tv so I would say compare it to that. It's likely the dock will up the resolution to 1080p for tv use. Main home console maybe down the road. If you look historically it was always going to be a handheld first as the 3DS was released in 2011 and approaching 6 years old. They need to get a new handheld out |

I don't think there will be a separate home console down the line, this is it, a handheld with TV dock to play the games on a big screen.

Personally, this is one I'm looking forward to. I haven't bothered (yet) with PS4 or Xbox. To me, now more than ever before they are PC's, and I reckon if I wanted that then Steam would be the best option. I certainly don't game like I used to; I spend way more time playing retro games via Rpi3 and MOJO than on the only main console that I have (PS3 still). So for me, my last shot at any gaming fun is going to be Nintendo. I hope they get it right.

Powerful, easy to use, no crazy installs.. But they messed up the launch and the gamepad was a bit Fisher Price. I'm glad I've traded it, hanging on to it was just annoying me as there was nothing left to buy for it. |

An unnamed source with strong ties to Nintendo has reported that Mario, Zelda and Pokémon titles will all be released within 6 months of the NX release.
The Mario and Zelda bit doesn't surprise me, especially as we've known about the Zelda game for over a year now, but Pokémon? That's a wildcard. It's far too soon after Pokémon Sun + Moon to be yet another generation of Pokémon, so could it be a full 3d re-imagining of the original Red and Blue? Or a spin-off series (Pokémon Snap 2)? Depending on what it is, that alone could be the NX trump card. |

Sounds promising, a helping of Mario & Pokemon alongside Zelda will really boost the consoles chances in the launch window, however I think it has to be a PROPER Mario and Pokemon. If it turns out to be a Super Paper Mario or Pokemon Stadium that won't cut it!
However I think Pokémon Snap 2 may just suffice, fans have been clamouring for that for ages now and whilst GameFreak had a perfect opportunity to properly utilise the Wii U gamepad for that title, the NX still might be able to do it in a unique way. But yeah, I would much prefer a 3d open-world game, whether it be a re-creation of Red and Blue or an entirely new entry all together. What it absolutely *can't* afford to be is a simple port of Sun and Moon, they'll shoot themselves right in the foot if one of the majorly-tipped titles is a port from the 3DS, especially because we know the Zelda game is also to be released on Wii U too. There has to be a reason for people to get this console, so here's hoping Nintendo really hit hard with the exclusives. |
