Nintendo are also saying that the Switch is "A home console first & foremost".

Traditionally Nintendo consoles have been BC with the previous generation...
Home console, not really. Only since the Wii. |

and definitely need some info on backwards compatibility. Traditionally Nintendo consoles have been BC with the previous generation, but if this is cartridge based how is that going to work with Wii u games?

If it is then will only be via digital download which for previous WiiU owners that have discs maybe disappointed.
http://www.nintendolife.com/news/201...wii_u_software I can't remember how it worked exactly, but couldn't they do a data transfer like they did from Wii to Wii U to transfer all your saved data and thereby proving which games you owned (and played) and let you download them for free? Probably too much hassle and doing them out of a chunk of money so unlikely I guess. |

I do like the idea of this, but I'm a bit worried about what will happen with the 3ds, and definitely need some info on backwards compatibility. Traditionally Nintendo consoles have been BC with the previous generation, but if this is cartridge based how is that going to work with Wii u games?
Or are they viewing this as a successor to the 3ds rather than the U? I think the reveal has been good so far, but I'd rather have some more info on it sooner rather than later. |

With regards to backwards compatibility, I don't think they'd be fussed about re-releasing Splatoon and MK8 if backwards compatibility was a thing.

I've not played a single Wii game on the Wii U so I'm not really fussed about backwards compatibility... however I would like to play Splatoon and MK8 still so it would be a nice feature to have anyway.

People seem to think this is gonna be about £300 at release but I think that's a bit much personally, especially up against the current gen systems which are now really well priced.

BC was a big selling point for me buying a wii u, if I could keep some of my games on the switch it would go along way to me getting one.

There doesn't seem to be a disc drive so any BC with Wii or Wii U games would have to be by downloading digital copies, we don't know what type of on board storage Switch has, or the capacity, though. |

I thought it was opposite she pretty much nailed every detail of the switch or I'm thinking of someone else.
On the matter of battery life, the information we're getting is based on Dev Kit battery life- while there were similar reports with Vita it turned out the real-world battery life was slightly better, so the reports will be worse than they need to be. That said, Vita's real-world battery life wasn't brilliant... |

That's pretty much the battery life of a 3DS - and a typical mobile phone/tablet tends to be even less if constantly playing a game (and god help you if it was made using Unity).
For longer journey's via car, train or plane - you're typically near a USB or other type of power source anyhow. Not that big a deal. After watching few you tubes videos this weekend I'm still unsure about this. I think Nintendo need to address some questions now, battery life, storage, bc etc and not leave it until after Christmas. Also the fact that both 2K games and Bethesda have both failed to support the fact that they had titles shown in the trailer, is worrying. It could just be that Nintendo have asked them to stay quite for a while. Or maybe they themselves don't what to mention the games as may dilute the sells on the other consoles. |

I think this could be great by Nintendo. I just hope storage and battery life are good so the console is usable. They need to get games out more often for it too to get good hardware sales. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc are going to shift units. Support this with Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers, Splatoon, etc.

Not on a plane, they have usb's but not for charging, not at least on VA who I have flown with 6 times in the last 2 months.

Basically, they need to release the full specs and confirm if it is region locked still.

I think this was to show off their support, but it's fascinating to me that they showed Games in the trailer which may not even be coming to the console, especially only 6 months before launch. Apart from Zelda which we know is happening and DQ11, which has also been confirmed, we know nothing about the specs or software or even price. I'm a bit worried that even though 3rd party developers seem to like it, none have really supported it and some (Bethesda) are actively distancing themselves that Skyrim will be on the console which is a bit misleading of the trailer if you ask me. |

Misleading to the point of false advertising, especially as Bethesda won't confirm, look what's happening to "No Mans Sky" I have a feeling Bethesda are keeping quite as they don't won't Skyrim sales diluted by the possible release on a mobile device.
Nintendo need to stop messing around and start answering questions, stuff the "we're not saying anything till 2017" To me that reads "hey we have an idea, lets see what people speculate on, and maybe we can do it" it's as if they expect us to do their market research. I'm interested but won't be putting in a pre-order until certain things are answered. I really don't see what benefit this is to Nintendo, hype is being generated and they're letting it slide away with adverse rumours and speculation. They were the first people to let slip that they were looking at a new console (I can't call it next gen) and then have basically kept quite and shown us a trailer that's basically what we thought it was. It seems they're riding on their name again, well sorry it's not going to happen again. And what about VR, didn't they say the console was delayed earlier this year as they were going to make it VR ready? |

How long is there until preorder anyway? I can't imagine they'd open it up until they've released more info anyway.

But that as when people still thought it was two separate units or something. |

There probably wont be any pre-orders being taken until the full reveal happens and the RRP is announced, presumably early next year. You can "register your interest" at GAME, but that's just for e-mailed updates and no doubt a notification as soon as pre-orders become available.

No....that was just a rumour. The rumour being that the original release date was December this year, but delayed until March 2017 and there was speculation about it being something to do with VR.
But that as when people still thought it was two separate units or something. |
