BIB Me too, I'd love to see Erin or Camilla return.

Well, it's a personal choice, of course, and I enjoy the older celebs but really not keen at seeing older dancers. I think there should be a cut off point, probably mid 40s. They should quit while they are ahead and still have something to offer.

Anton does not have the energy or glamour of the younger dancers and while his ballroom is still wonderful I think the likes of Alijaz are just as good whilst his Latin is so awful it's an embarrassment to watch.

But that's just my feelings about it, of course others still appreciate them and that's great but for me he has become a bit of a joke now.

Well there is the judges vacancy from next year-and I gather both are interested in it. Good reasons to hang around as far as they are concerned I guess.

Yes, I am sure they would both love the gig. Brendan already has judging experience so might be better but you get the feeling the BBC want Anton.

Either way that would not preclude them from leaving now as dancers and then returning as a judge later on. I think a break of at least a year in between being a dancer and then a judge would be better than just going straight from one to the other.

Still feel Gleb and Trent didn't return because their other halves not offered parts on show”

I also kinda wonder why TPTB dint offer Elena (Gleb's wife) a pro spot on the show? She's pretty amazing.. & also well known among the dance fans.

They had no problem roping in Neil/Katya as pros this season.. so why not Gleb/Elena? Gleb was a massive hit among the fans/viewers last season.. they should've kept him anyways. Also, Elena & Gleb are both great looking & are incredible choreographers. Much better than Anton/ Brendan or some of the pros like Joanne, IMO..

As others have said, family show which would mean a varied age range and Anton is quite popular amongst some groups. For instance, my Nan and her film club can't get enough of him, I don't see the appeal personally but they adore him and Erin so each to their own

I suppose it's because the BBC takes a view of what the general public (which strangely isn't the DS Forums) want

Anton is the most recognised name on the show. Simple as that.

Exactly. He also knows how to make himself popular with TPTB, whether within production or the Beeb. It's very striking how he remains socially friendly with so many of his celeb partners years after their appearances on the show, which speaks volumes to me about the reasons for his popularity.

I actually disagree with most posters - I think Anton is a really good dancer and that is why he's still there. He did fantastically with Katie last year and proved that he's not just the dud that people seem to think. I agree his Latin isn't as good as his ballroom, but by no means is it awful.

I also quite like Brendan, although he seems to have calmed down a lot in recent series - I think I preferred him with a bit of fire!

Haemorrhoid cream offers a bit more relief too. 😙

I would mind Anton far less, if he did not seem to stay longer in the competition than his celebrities ability warranted.

In other words, you would like him better of he did his job worse?!

Really? How does despair at the voting public keeping him him translate to wanting him to be worse?

I just loath humiliation as a comedic vehicle.

They are both in because they can both do beautiful ballroom.
I am probably Anton's demographic (middle aged mum who cannot dance, check) and genuinely would choose him over the young eye candy as a partner.
Brendan found it frustrating with Sunetra because the training schedule was juggled precariously alongside Casualty. Plus Aurélia (his daughter) was still little.
The fact that her ballroom routines were still beautiful means that even if running on empty, he still produces some better routines than the ankle biters.
So I am pleased they are both still there.
Although I was tickled by Monkseal's suggestion they could both do a Statler and Waldorf
on the balcony.

I think Anton is probably a perfectly competent teacher of latin in that he knows the theory and can demonstrate it well enough to a genuinely inexperienced celeb and so they don't lose out in learning technique. However, his performance and choreography may impact on a more talented celeb in that it won't be to the same level as the other pros, although I have to say that I think a weak ballroom dancer (and there have been some pros in that category) has more impact on their partner's performance than a bad latin dancer, simply by virtue of the fact that they are in hold. However people don't seem to notice a bad ballroom performance so much or are a lot more tolerant of them. His ballroom has still continued to be be stronger than most of the pros in past series, and so a celeb whose strengths lie mainly in that area should benefit, although he made one or two misjudgements with Katie. I think he does fulfil a role on the show though, albeit partnering with the older females.

I've loved Brendan's choreography in the past, particularly his ballroom, but he has lost some zing in recent series.

Anton looks ludicrously out of place on the show these days, its cringeworthy. I cant stand the nasty, gurning self centered fool, and he should have been kicked into touch years ago. Im amazed that some people still cant see through him into what he "really" is.

Anton is there because he appeals to an older demographic. As already mentioned in this thread, SCD has the ability to appeal to different generations.

That's why the format works so well.

Which surely indicates why he is stil on the show, the public like him!!

(Now waits for the 'BBC conspiracy' theorists to pipe up )

There isn't anyone much older than me (80) and I cannot stand him! I much prefer watching Aljaz, Pasha and Giovanni.

Terry, why are you reviving a zombie thread from July?
So naughty.
Anton gives good ballroom.
Brenda gives good filth. Except with Sophie. Never with Sophie.
That is all.
