I wish EE was more like Gilmore Girls
Okay it ran for only seven seasons (yes I know it's returning), but Gilmore Girls was really effective in how it showed the depths of the relationships between its core characters. After seven years, there was still scope for them to devlve into the emotions of Lorelai and Emily. For those that don't watch it, the focus was on Lorelai a woman with a sixteen year old daughter (at the start). Lorelai had given birth at the age of sixteen and left her family home to raise her daughter by herself. Emily was hurting that her own daughter chose to leave her.
Over the years we were given huge insight to the emotions the two women went through. There was so many different nuances to their relationship. Emily for instance could have been portrayed as a cold woman, her character was domaneering, a control freak, a manipulator. But we also caught glimpses of a softer side, of a woman who genuinely loved her daughter. With EastEnders, too much emphasis is put on there being a secret which then comes out and the story is then pretty much forgotten about. I really wish the writers would watch GG and take inspiration. The show should be more about relationships and how a person adapts to the hurdles life throws in his/her way rather than being about sensationalism and secrets that don't go anywhere. Even the filler aspects of the show weren't cliche, the show was really good at making the mundane parts of life interesting. |

Just t add, I never thought that GG ever really repeated itself with its content. When Mick found out Shirley was his mom and Dean raped Linda we had the same scenes over and over again. But they lacked depth.
The show needs to put more emphasis on the emotions and depths of the characters rather than it being a string of secrets. |

I'd rather EE was more like a well written drama than a well written sitcom

I have no idea what you're on about Mr S but I do think EE has turned into Pulp Fiction!

![]() My point is, I think EE tends to be more about sensationalism and secrets rather than giving their storyline depths or layers. Like Les and his cross dressing, a huge part of that storyline was about the fact he had got a secret. We were meant to believe he was having an affair with Claudette. But I think they could have done a lot more to explain why he does it. |

to help him cope with the stress
but you do have a point And not just for the drama either, GG was really good at filler. Some episodes had nothing happen at all but it was still interesting for the most part. Series seven was its weakest but by that point its creators had moved on. Like with EE when they want to do something light they throw in a football game or a game of poker or darts and then it's quickly forgotten about. They need to give their characters more variety. |

Gilmore Girls is in a different class than any soap. I enjoy soaps but you can't compare them to once a week hour shows like Gilmore Girls or Mad Men. The quality is just worlds apart.

You, Sorcha, Lea and 0..0 could do a DS version.
I will leave Sorcha, 0_0 and Hilda to deal with you |

That said, EE can still be interesting it's just they seldom seem to try.
