TheInsomniaTV Youtube account gone...
cobwebsoup
26-07-2016
TheInsomniaTV uploaded hundreds or even thousands of, "Classic Emmerdale" clips and episodes over the last six years or so (mainly featuring the Dingles, Kings and Sugden's big episodes from 2004 to present.) I just checked tonight and their Youtube channel has finally been terminated. Such a shame as I used to enjoy watching episodes from days gone by and whoever ran that channel went to a lot of hard work to edit those videos together. Was anyone on DS familiar with TheInsomniaTV?

This is happening a lot recently, many of the channels with full episodes of classic Corrie and Emmerdale have been terminated too.

That is terrible, I was able to watch years of Emmerdale and get a good feel for the history of the show. It is really stupid of ITV to get these accounts removed, they help people get into the show and its not like the account creator is profiting off of it.

Infringement of copyright. I suppose those who uploaded would rather the channel was taken down than be prosecuted - although that could still happen.

Same. It's a shame that the channels always get shut down, although TheInsomniaTV was there for many years. I shall miss watching the Kings and Dingles videos (although I seem to remember downloading some of the King ones onto my old hard drive so they may still be there...).

I wonder if the account creator closed their account. Usually the networks only take down certain videos, plus TvInsomnia had more than just Emmerdale stuff on there, I believe he had Hollyoaks and a couple reality shows on there too.

When I click on the channel it says, "TheInsomniaTV has been terminated because we received multiple third-party claims of copyright infringement regarding material the user posted."

I have no idea mate. I think TheInsomniaTV was living in Canada though, I'm sure I remember that been on the channel details. It's a shame that clips from Emmerdale's better days are so limited now.

They've been on a spree getting any old Emmerdale episodes removed, I don't know why if there not willing to put them up themselves what harm is being done

Very basically, it's theft, and Emmerdale does have its own channel.

Have you checked out EmmerdaleFarmer or EmmerdalePastandPresent? They both have a lot of old Emmerdale clips and full episodes. There is also one that has Aaron's story from 2009-2012 think its KimbaForever or something like that.

It is not theft since the youtube channel owners are not profiting off it and like Nico_D said its not like ITV is making the content available themselves. ITV should be happy people are uploading their shows content to youtube. If it wasn't for the one channel uploading Aaron's story I would have never gotten into Emmerdale.

Theft of intellectual property
https://www.copyrightservice.co.uk/c..._copyright_law

Irrelevant, but the USA enforces their copyright law much more stringently.

Theft. A criminal act in which property belonging to another is taken without that person's consent. Profit or gain doesn't come into it and is not a consideration,

Not for the soaps, there are tons of youtube channels with classic episodes of all the US soaps. The only ones they take down are the ones with current episodes.

There is no distinction for soaps I don't care how many pirate channels there are, they're all showing illegal content. They just haven't been reported. Yet.

To be fair though, the official Emmerdale Channel is rubbish. Most of their clips are from recent years and they only last a couple of minutes each.

I haven't as far as I can remember but thank you for the recommendations, I shall have a look.

Its not illegal I have a couple soap videos up on my own channel and ABC has never claimed rights over it. And uploading copyrighted material to youtube is really a grey area, especially material that is available no where else. I know I read somewhere that when VCRs came out people were saying it was illegal to record tv shows cuz they are copyrighted but nothing came of that.
