No, Blackadder was deliberately made to look brilliant and was, Allo Allo looked cheap and trashy like the Carry On's but wasn't, it was brilliantly written and the comedy was genius although it did just look silly and ridiculous to those who didn't follow it religiously

I absolutely loved Richard Gibson's portrayal of Herr Flick, I actually have an Allo Allo book and it mentions that Richard had never done comedy before and was rather apprehensive about doing gags so he played Herr Flick as a straight part but ended up being unintentionally funny.
His comic timing was excellent and his expressions cracked me up. I loved those scenes with Helga, one where she is cranking the car and one where he is blowing up the tyre, they're so full of sexual innuendo, pull and thrust indeed!

I never really watched Blackadder and from what I've seen I don't really fancy it so I can't really compare.

The look and the tone was trashy unless you knew how to take it, hard to explain unless you understand the quality of cast etc.

Allo Allo was very much in the Carry On style, full of sexual innuendo, boobies, sausages, knickers and crumpet and the like, hell, it even had Kenneth Connor in it!

![]() It was pure filth and suggestiveness and wouldn't even get commissioned today let alone made. |
