I can't do rap.

I can just about put up with three of Eminem's "songs", but that's because of Rhianna.

But American rap songs are the worst IMO, for various reasons
I'm confused with can or can't 'do'.

Do you mean you do or don't 'like'?

Danny if you have never heard of some of these artists I have no hope with some of my favourites then like

Carole King and James Taylor, Etta James, Nina Simone

Edit:: Mama Cass, The Carpenters all fantastic
Carole King one of my other favourites! Tapestry is a fantastic album, all the songs are amazing and the chords are great, lots of minor sevenths.

Way Over Yonder, It's Too Late and Where You Lead are my picks.

I like Mama Cass. I prefer her solo stuff than the stuff she did with The Mama and Papas.

And The Carpenters are amazing

Not entirely keen on Carole King. I found that the people who covered her music actually performed them much better than her. But she is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Especially during her time when more men were writing more music than women.

I love Dusty Springfield. I would love for a new generation to discover her. It was Dusty who paved the way for the likes of Adele. I hope they finally give a greenlight to a biopic about her life one day.

Ben said he can't abide swing, and I said I can't do rap, as in I can't stomach it / listen to it / stand it, something which I explained in posts after the one you've quoted

I understand what you're saying, you don't 'like' whatever it may be, which is universally understood but saying I don't 'do' can be rather confusing because it refers to being or not being able to 'perform' something, e.g . rap, swing or pop music and I assume you don't perform these types of music but saying I don't do confuses people and saying I don't like doesn't.

I understand what you're saying, I just forget as "I can't do (something)" is a phrase used quite a lot around where I live, which is probably why it's causing the confusion, but why Ben understood what I meant.

My posts keep getting lost among the chatter on here. It's annoying when you are trying to contribute to a conversation.

I've seen them but if I were to reply I'd look thicker than I already do as I don't know anything about the subject, hence why I didn't say much about it last night

(This is why I wish DS had a like button!)

There are a lot of posts I agree with, but have nothing to add to a conversation, which is why I'd like a like button.
