Only since the 2005 'return'
Favourite Dr?? Hmm!! Probably would have to be David Tennant with Billie Piper, for the humour he brought, but I actually really loved last year's series with Peter Capaldi & Jenna Coleman!! Never a big Matt Smith fan tbh!! Liked Christopher Eccleston too!!

Coventry in Warwickshire. Right next to Birmingham, and - as hard as it is to admit - a 25 minute drive from the shithole that is Nuneaton. (no offence to any Nuneaton people, although I doubt you'll admit it!
)Coventry's the one that got blown up in the Blitz BTW. ![]() |

I also started watching from the return, but I've watched a lot of the Classic series (my Dad's watched it since he was a kid etc). I actually think I'm in love with Cpaldi's character, he's great IMO.

I have been to Warwickshire, It's a nice place
![]() Better than Tipton ![]() ![]() BIB - You say that now, but have you ever been to Nuneaton? (not that you'd want to, I imagine...!). It'd make Tipton look good, trust me. If I was to ever become Prime Minister, the first thing I'd do is build a moat around Nuneaton and officially declare it part of another country. Give it to Spain or something.

![]() Used to go clubbing up that way occasionally!! Probably showing my age now but does Madison's still exist!! Went to Tall Trees at Yarm a couple if times & always enjoyed a night out in Redcar (The Deck) as well!! We're talking 20/25 years ago tnough!! ![]() ![]() Similarly, Madison's has been closed for years. I remember that the Gazette did a special about it a couple of years ago and asked people to send pictures in. I wonder if they're online anywhere... you might be in them ndd !

I felt like that too. Then again I would be really scared driving around cliff edges!
![]() Thank you I did see the rest, Casualty are quite good at stunts, well the big ones anyway.

I'm showing my age, but I remember watching it first time round on a tiny black and white TV that I was allowed in my bedroom! I was about 12 at the time. I had the volume down and sat right next to the TV so I could hear
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() At the time I was, obviously, most taken by the depictions of gay sex, but when I rewatched it earlier this year, I was really struck by how interesting and deep the characters were, especially in series 1. Series 2 went a bit 'weird' but I think it worked well given the different format. Another thing that stands out is how open the show was in its depiction of underage sex. Stuart was nearly 30 and Nathan just 15 yet in the first episode most characters make a joke about them having slept together: "You're not the only one who had a child tonight". This was at a time when the legal age of consent for homosexual sex was still 18. I cannot imagine a scene like that airing today. So many scenes from QAF were real and will stick with me forever. The two biggies, which I think are two of the show's most well-known scenes are Stuart rimming Nathan and then Nathan wanking off Christian in the changing rooms. I also love the scene when Nathan struts into school to 'Sexy Boy' by Air. Just like you, I rewatched it after watching Cucumber/Banana to see how Russel T Davies had developed over the years. QAF was much more 'in your face', which was actually very much the late 90s style, whereas Cucumber was far more understated and mature. In fact, I think that Cucumber is far more powerful than QAF. I'm still making discoveries about Cucumber over a year later. Vince's mum (Hazel) was also in Corrie in the early 90s. She also made the ghostly cameo in Lance's episode of Cucumber, playing the same character. ![]() I liked that line a lot but like you say it set the show really well and that it didn't shy away from anything. I did like Phil dying from taking drugs, as Stuart and Vince took drugs but they didn't die or get hospitalised yet Phil did and I liked that the show depicted it from different points of view, showing what could happen. I liked those scenes also, particularly Nathan and Christian as it was unexpected. Christian was there talking about a girl pulling at his balls before she went home, then all of a sudden Nathan wanked him off without him doing anything apart from sitting there with his eyes closed. Even other scenes such as the homophobic car salesman were very realistic, as unfortunately there are people like that around. That's interesting about Cucumber being more powerful. I really enjoyed the series and I liked how it interlinked with Banana and also Tofu. I could do with watching it again as it was really engaging, same with Banana. I think Hazel is my favourite of the characters, she is just so brilliant and the kind of mum everyone would want.

I'm only 30 but there are little bits of it that are starting to make more sense to me as time goes on. In fact, I had an experience last weekend where I suddenly thought of Cucumber and another part of it clicked into place. It was the bit where Henry childishly squeals 'One more cock!'. At the time I thought it was just a crass line and a bit ridiculous, but after (yet another) bad experience with a guy, I've started to come to the conclusion that most gay men are always hoping/wishing/dreaming/looking for that elusive 'one more cock'. I don't think any of the messages in Cucumber are as overt as they are in QAF, which shows how Russell T Davies has developed as a writer. |

Actually most weeks we'd just stay at Whitby's one nightclub at the time, Laughton's which has also been closed for years now, really was a regular there at the time!! ![]() Good times!!

All I'll say about Nuneaton, without meaning to sound harsh, is thirteen fingers, webbed feet and more drugs and crime than Ste Hay, Roxy Mitchell and Holly Barton would know what to do with, put together!

Greetings All.
Forgot to say the other night I watched the soap secrets video when it was first out last year but skimmed back through it after it was shared on here mainly to see the comments of Kate Oates as she is starting at Corrie now and was glad to hear what she said about a stunt needing to be deserved. With talk of a possible stunt later this year I hope she would aim to deliver a decent build up and aftermath and not just a ratings peak.
