Desensitisation is when you work with somebody who has a fear of something and reduce their fear to it by exposing them to it. So for example, an individual who suffers from Social Anxiety who cannot go out in public, they will have be shown pictures of public places, such as a supermarket or a street. Eventually, they will be driven to the store by the person they're working with and will sit in the car park. Then, they will go round the store with that person at first, and eventually they will have reduced the fear to the point where they can go around the supermarket/public place by themselves. It does take a while but does sound like a very interesting job.”
