Poor Dot indeed! It's good how they've written in June's real life sight problems int the storyline. It is annoying that some FM's are banging on about nothing happening in the episodes.

Whilst I don't agree with some of SOC's cast choices, I really don't think the show is in as bad a state as people make out.

I did think tonight's was poor, although I did like Dots scenes, love Dot. I'm sorry Atti I'm not sure your criticism is entirely fair. I rarely criticise the show,but am beginning to feel a pariah because I'm not entirely happy with its direction at the moment. Nobody can accuse me of being a casual fan, or not knowing what I'm talking about, the fact I don't see it the way many others are doesn't mean I am banging on about it or being unfair

I hope so. Dot is from a generation where you just 'get up and get on with things', so I hope some just takes her to the doctor's and shows her that she can actually be helped.

Of course you have the right to criticise the show, I mean I have plenty of times. If you're not happy with the state of it then by all means say so. I just find it annoying when there is constant threads about it, with people posting without really saying why they think it's bad with little to no explanation other than 'it's boring' etc. I apologise that I've made you feel that way, that certainly wasn't my intention at all and I probably could have worded it better in my post.

I'm probably somewhere in the middle ground really, credit where credit is due SOC has definitely tightened up the writing, and the characters are coming to life much more but tonight's episode was tedious. That along with the fact the writing has improved so you start to care about characters again only to realise a third of the cast have been disposed of seems counter-intuitive to me.

His work so far really seems to have divided opinion. I'm enjoying what he has done so far, he definitely has elements of Julia Smith and Matthew Robinson. Speaking of him, I found part of an old interview with him and I can definitely see SOC being similar to him. I don't agree with his decision to axe Pam and Les, they were excellent characters who had more to give and I think it's a shame they're gone.

Yeah exactly. The overall tone and feel is so different to DTC's era, nothing is 'in your face', signposted or OTT and you have to make an effort to spot for signs and actually pay attention. That's what makes it engaging viewing.

Some of them as well also moaned through the latter part of DTC's era to bring the show back down to earth again, now it is it's labelled 'boring' by the same people!

There is so many storylines being built up and ongoing but you have to watch and see them being built up in normaleveryday situations.

I am really enjoying it and think it's the best it has been for a long time. The prev producer seemed to want to be producing a different genre of TV and it didn't work his love of fan fiction and ret-conning was ruining the show
