Thanks Lea
I think something must just hit you at some point and you start to look at things differently. I'm only 26, but can honestly say I've had a big wake-up call in the last 2/3 years. True, which can be good in some ways, but can also make you very reckless. When I think back to certain times of my life I'm horrified ![]() and it was only a few years ago! ![]() Dating/hook-up apps seem to make dangerous situations all the more possible, sadly. At least when you're just going out and pulling someone you kind of know what you're getting - even if you do wake up and regret it ![]() ![]() ![]() I don't regret anything iv done its how you learn (or not in some caes) and how you experience life I agree my experience of dating sites and tinder has been men falling into three categories 1. Men who just want an easy lay, dont care what you look like or your personality 2. Married men wanting the above on a regular basis without the wife knowing 3. Sad losers who just want someone to talk to and are never going to meet |

Yep, that's basically dating apps in a nutshell For gays, it's more like:1. Men who just want an easy lay, don't care about your personality so long as you aren't too fat. 2. Married men who are in the closet and want the above on a regular basis without the wife knowing. 3. Sad losers who just want dick picks and are never going to meet. |

Oh no, KK, that's awful
. I hope you're ok. The Barking Murders must be really difficult for you right now. It's just terrifying, I don't know if the police still have a certain mentality about gay murders such as this, that of, "Well, you went there willingly, didn't you?" I wouldn't like to think so, but I do wonder. I was so pissed off the other day when the BM was reported on the news and someone I know said, "Well, you can just tell he's gay" about the really young victim. I was furious. That was literally all they could say. Where is the sense of compassion? If it had been a young, pretty girl who'd been murdered, they would've more than likely said, "Aw, poor little thing". When it comes to gay men, there's still seems to be this lingering attitude of, 'Tut, tut. Gays and their horny ways'. I didn't keep quiet this time, though, so you would've been proud of me ![]() ![]() I can relate to all three of your experiences in different ways. I've always seemed to come back to Grindr and such apps when I'm at my lowest, which is possibly the worst time to do so as my sense of judgement and danger goes completely out of the window. Hence, unfortunately, I've had a few dicey situations to contend with. Nothing very bad, but enough to give myself a good shake. I actually went onto Grindr recently ago and had something "arranged" but turned around at the last minute and left. I suddenly realised I was worth more than that. Not to sound like I'm looking down my nose at others who use it regularly (as if I could) but I just had this realisation that it's not what I want anymore. Maybe the Barking Murders were lingering in the back of my head somewhere, but I don't mind it fun, exciting or sexy like I used to. I'd rather be lonely in the short-term and wait for something meaningful. ![]() People do have less compassion and still sometimes think of the seediness(?) of the whole thing. But like you said if it was a girl sympathy would be expressed, but not much compassion has been shown because they are gay. I always get a bit uncomfortable when cases like these come up because of two reasons; one: they always seem to have a high profile in the media (and rightly so) but it links into the second reason, which is where there will always be someone who continually focuses on the gay aspect of the whole thing and think of it as perverted, seedy, slutty etc and not express any sympathy or empathy for the poor victims, much like the person you knew. That last paragraph was really insightful and it's good you've made that decision as using apps such as that a lot eventually wear off and the meet ups and sex become meaningless. I agree however, especially after the Sex Offenders incident I decided to stop using it, mainly because they are only after one thing and it's pointless because you get no real benefit from meet ups other than a quick five minutes (if you're lucky). I much prefer it when you pull someone the 'normal' way (when drunk ) or someone who does actually want you as a person rather than your hole comes along and you go out with them etc. It makes you feel a lot better about yourself as well.

![]() There was no hiding it this time I was so annoyed because of the fact that it could easily have been me or one of my friends in that horrible situation and to think that all some people could sit there and say is, "Oh, doesn't he just LOOK gay though?" made me feel sick. I told the person in question that they might as well have added on: "....And so he deserved what he got!" to the end of his sentence ![]() Quote:

What you and KK were talking about really struck a chord with me. When you're behaving recklessly like that all the time a lot of it does have to do with self-esteem/loneliness, but you just don't realise it at the time and think it's fun. That time recently, when I decided against going, made me realise that I am in a better place now than I was before, and that there was nothing I needed out of a crappy 5 minutes with some random. Not to say it's always going to be bad when you use dating apps but, as you say, it's so much better when you meet someone naturally and have a genuinely laugh/connection with them, even if it is just for one night I'm glad you've pulled back from using hook-up sites too Get us, being all responsible

I told the person in question that they might as well have added on: "....And so he deserved what he got!" to the end of his sentence ![]() I just watched that BBC3 documentary about the BM - normally I hate watching stuff like this, but I was curious - and the flatmate of one of the victims basically had to conduct his own investigation into his friend's murder because the Met were not a bit interested. Interestingly, he said that same exact things we are: "If it was a young girl, would the police have taken it more seriously?' and also: "People assume that's what gay men do, they take drugs, overdose and die in graveyards. They didn't even consider it was murder." Thanks What you and KK were talking about really struck a chord with me. I mean, the same woman found two of them in the same place within three weeks of each other! Surely that was something to make someone somewhere go 'Are these related?' It is mainly to do with being lonely and wanting somebody, but quick 5 minute meets tend to be really soul destroying because you barely speak a sentence to the other person, just get on with it and go. You begin to think after a while what is the point and it is so much better to not do it. It is better, isn't it? Like, as opposed to getting on with it, you're actually building up to it by pulling them in the first place. You build an attraction and also a friendship. Like you say, not every meet is going to end with being killed, but you do put yourself in a dangerous position and it could end in any way, like being kidnapped, drugged up to the eyeballs and used, pimped, raped etc and you don't think about it at the time because you're caught up in the horniness of the situation. My friends used to say things like 'Oh if I were you I'd be having meets all the time' but they don't realise how soul destroying and dangerous it is. Ooh we're growing up I have such responsibility now, university application is hopefully being sent off before Christmas as well.
