Going offline but I must apologise.

Lea pulled my cracker but it malfunctioned and went off in her face.

Sorry Lea.

I hope so. I think they are, but I have to remember factors such as: some of my college friends are very young, and not always tactful, which I completely understand- they show that they care in other ways, I don't expect them to have knowledge of how to deal with depression. My boyfriend tries to help by reassuring me e.g if I say "I'm ugly" then he'll say "you're beautiful"

but he doesn't know that to me it sounds like he's talking about someone else
When your depression lifts you will be able to see what an amazing bf you have there. What help are you getting for the depression?

Hi Ozzy
Helloooooooo

Definitely want a role in the panto!
Grad definitely gave you a role

I know what you mean, it's like I'm aware of it but not fully able to appreciate it, if that makes sense?

None, actually. I hadn't realised until you asked. Last year I took counselling at college, this year I tried CBT outside of college, but that ended a couple months ago

Your boyfriend sounds so lovely reassuring you like that

Hope you are able to feel more positive soon, it's horrible when depression clouds all of the good things and therefore you're not able to appreciate the positives around you.

*Big hugs*

Did you find that the CBT helped when you did it?

It helped me with strategies for the anxiety side of it, but didn't really help with the depression

Aww, I need a man like him don't let them strangers keep you down too long, I know it's hard to get back up but you can do it, even if it takes time. You will get there in the end.

You would think they would give you youngsters more help and support!

At least the cbt was some help.

On a positive note sounds like you are very lucky and have lots of supportive people around you

People don't often 'get it' if they haven't experienced it, sadly. The difficult with depression is that people mistaken it for "being sad" when it actual fact it is something entirely different. Everyone gets 'depressed' from time to time, but actual depression is a mental illness that can't just be snapped out of.

I understand what you mean. You're lacking self-esteem right now. Just know your boyfriend wouldn't go to the trouble to say such lovely things if he didn't actually mean them

Mm, definitely. I think I'm finally coming to realise that people don't just say these things for no reason, especially if you're in a relationship with them. I agree depression is very different from being sad, but to my friends I often just call it that to make it simpler.

I hope you do, you deserve one like that I think it might be okay because I feel quite resilient, yesterday it felt like I'd never been so embarrassed or felt worse about myself, but already that feeling is fading.

Oh don't get me wrong, the options are there- I've considered going back to counselling, just feels a bit awkward to go back to my old counsellor

I definitely have a good support network which I'm very grateful for I have my family, friends, bf, teachers, and of course you guys

Aw thank you like Graddy said your bf wouldn't say those lovely things if he didn't mean them. That's good you are feeling a bit better, it my take some time to fully go but it will, just try to focus on the positives and use the support network you have!

Exactly. The trick is sifting through the bullshit and get to the genuine people

I think the words 'depression' and 'anxiety' are thrown around too casually by us all, probably because they're are convenient. The trouble is feeling 'depressed' or 'anxious' is different from suffering from 'depression' or 'an anxiety disorder'. And it doesn't help when immature people self-diagnose themselves with such conditions for attention

Wise words. And it's not as if gaining self-esteem just 'happens' one day, it's a constant learning curve

Been so busy lately and was behind on EastEnders so avoided the forums whilst I caught up! Did I miss anything extraordinary on the forum?
I stole Page 500.
