Does it annoy anyone else when soap parents explain a death to their children as the person concerned having "gone away"? The child will surely think they've been abandoned
I think it's quite natural. They're too young to understand. Maybe explain it at a later date.

The issue on this one was that Jack refused the help offered to him, but it's realistic because men generally want to do things their own way rather than appear weak by accepting the help. Unfortunately for Jack in refusing the help he has left himself with a major problem he is unable to resolve satisfactorily himself as he is grief - stricken and unable to do the right thing due to the grief. The kids, if they feel aggrieved in later life could very well have issues with Jack over it.

Afternoon all - been back home since Tuesday afternoon - cold! My flat is useless for heating up, and spent £15 on a very tight budget heating the place up. Be glad to move. Adding to that, we had a power cut Monday and the meter ran out of leccy so I had to throw away 90% of the stuff in the freezer. Well gutted

I won't see EE live tonight as I've got a meeting, so it'll be an Iplayer job for me. Keep up the good work SOC

Don't get me, I wouldn't expect him to go into detail. It's just the way he worded it made is sound as if they'd just left them. Perhaps a pet-death comparison would've been better.

Very true, and now the kids might grow up with a completely different idea of what happened to their mothers.

Do I need to drag Lea out here to cheer you up?

God, Neil. What a nightmare that sounds! Hope you find a new place soon. In fact, we should all get a TTN flatshare and help keep each other warm (Lea and the straighties can get woolly jumpers )

depending on what was in the freezer, next time cook stuff and then when its cooled portion it and freeze it to be reheated when you want it.

if it is stuff you have cooked and then frozen obvs throw it away.

you cant refreeze when defrosted but you can cook and freeze.

To be fair, I don't how long the power had been off for and was a bit worried - I have this gear of being ill through spoiled food. A lot of it was cuts of meat like a couple of cooking steaks, a chicken, pizzas and a few ready meals.

The meeting I didn't go - had some bad news with the benefits - got an assessment for my ESA due to my depression and anxiety next Thurs. I went for one two years ago after my partner died I was on ESA for a few months and got 0. I don't want the hassle of JSA, and job prospects down here are crap and a lengthy commute.

it would take quite some time for the food to defrost from a closed freezer with the power off. pizzas and ready meals would have had to have been chucked but you could of saved the chicken and cow

are you not looking to move? maybe try and do that sooner rather than later if it will help job chances. sure you said you had been looking anyway didn't you?

I have no need for a flat share, I own my own home. one that retains heat well and so I don't need to wear woolly jumpers

But where is this flat going to be? I'd say Coventry but we might all catch a disease.

And keeping each other warm? That only leads to

You've opened a Whole can of worms here Gradmeister.

To be honest soap-Lea, I just panicked and I had to lug three bags on a 90 minute journey from my Mums on two buses.

I am, but I have tried our local council as I do have some health issues (asthmatic, and climb four flights of stairs to my flat to the front door), but they've been so slack in which they didn't get the forms until December 13th which I find that hard to believe as my GP got them November 24th and sent them on the 25th, it could take another couple of months. I've got £650 for the deposit on the place, but where my Mum is on the outskirts of Bristol is a bit much and my money situation is far from ideal. I was advised by my own GP and the job centre to sign on the sick, as it was getting me down finding work.

Oh I see how it is.

Rick, I was going to ask if you could stoop any lower but then you've chosen to remain in Birmingham so you obviously can.

You're just jealous - Coventry has loads to offer whereas all you guys have is an annoying accent and more toes than braincells between you.

I just re-read your post which said the powercut was mon and you got back tuesday. You probs did the right thing!

Could you not move in with your mum temporarily? Just till you get sorted? Not ideal but might help you get back on track

Coventry has the choice of 2 train companies to London: Virgin Trains and London Midland.

Perfect!

Rickaaaaay! There's your question answered: we'll all just rock up at Auntie Lea's homestead on t'Dales She won't mind squeezing in between Keyser and Danny so we can 'ave the double

Coventry Handy, central location for us all, I guess. Pity about the stink, though

Good. I'd be disappointed otherwise
