so as i said, saying they were highly critically panned is equally if not moreso accurate

that's not true at all. however everyone has a different opinion so some critics may share some opinions whilst others won't. likewise you may share some opinions and not others

what i would point out is someone who is a fanatic of an artist talking about biased opinions is the pot calling the kettle black

that's your personal opinion, rather than the true meaning of the term. many disputes arise from such an opinion, where someone understands something differently to the standard meaning

and that's a good example of where your opinion varies from the true meaning

if we take your example, then it would mean i was a fan because i own more than one album from madonna, as i do for many artists, regardless of if i even like the music or not. if i was given a bunch of cds from someone and it had 3 cds from boyzone, would that mean i was a boyzone fan until i got rid of those cds? you can see the flaws in what you are saying by now surely?

i've not hijacked it, and in fact you are the one who is arguing against what i've said, instead of simply accepting my opinion and what i have said. there was absolutely no reason for you to reply to my post

from the perspective of a fan(atic) of an artist, i can understand why you would think that, but the fact remains i am objective rather than biased, but instead it appears you simply refuse to accept anything said about her that you don't like. which is typical behaviour of a fan(atic) of an artist

tell us? do you actually know, or is this just another loaded question?

what is the name for someone who posts personal insults about people online? note i don't make personal insults towards people, but i note the comments in the madonna thread where people do make personal insults towards others on a fairly regular basis
So what you are saying, is you can say anything you want and no one is allowed to respond to you or give their opinion? That is not what a discussion board is about. Funny, you don't follow that rule when other people say something you disagree with.

No you may not be a fan if someone gives an album to you. I"m talking about if you affirmatively choose to buy an album by an artist. You must do that because you like their music on some level.
I think my definition of fan is the commonly accepted one. Are you saying there is no such thing as a casual fan?

If Little Monster wants to vote several times on this poll she can. Its no one's concern how many times she has voted.

I too voted several times. The OP allowed that option.

As you hate Madonna with a passion I'm still surprised you are so active in all her topics. I'm finding the majority of your posts nothing more than baiting to her fans.

So what you are saying, is you can say anything you want and no one is allowed to respond to you or give their opinion? That is not what a discussion board is about. Funny, you don't follow that rule when other people say something you disagree with.

Its impossible to engage with that user. They insult, patronize and belittle anyone who has a different opinion. I've got them on ignore but sadly their posts still show up if quoted.

no i'm not

That is not what a discussion board is about.
i know

it's not a rule

again this isn't necesarily true. people buy things for different reasons. some people may collect the work of various artists, including when they do work on other peoples records. such as collecting hipgnosis album covers regardless of if you like the music or listen to it or not

I think my definition of fan is the commonly accepted one.
i can see that. that's why you are wrong. the dictionary lists the commonly accepted one

Are you saying there is no such thing as a casual fan?
no. if you bothered to read my posts you would see that i've written about this on this very thread

If Little Monster wants to vote several times on this poll she can.
i'm aware of that, as i highlighted it earlier, which if you read what i have posted you would see

Its no one's concern how many times she has voted.
clearly not as a few people have mentioned the poll allowing numerous options to be picked when it's clearly asking for a singular favourite - or at least clear to people who understand the meaning of the word "favourite"

I too voted several times. The OP allowed that option.
i can see that. so instead of doing as the OP asks and picking a favourite, you didn't

As you hate Madonna with a passion
i don't

I'm still surprised you are so active in all her topics. I'm finding the majority of your posts nothing more than baiting to her fans.
i don't think that's true, as if you did you wouldn't reply and the mods would take action. however the OP has been banned and a number of posts from people claiming to be madonna fans have been deleted as recently as this week

if you don't like what someone says, you don't need to reply

Its impossible to engage with that user.
which user?

They insult, patronize and belittle anyone who has a different opinion.
report any posts that are against the rules to mods and let them deal with it. mods have deleted a number of posts from madonna fans recently, so they are taking action

I've got them on ignore but sadly their posts still show up if quoted.
you still have the option to simply not reply back though. i suggest you read up on conflict management

Ray of Light for me. I also believe she was once asked which was her favorite or greatest piece of work and she said Ray of Light. I do love her 80's/early 90's stuff as well but I think her best all round album was Ray of Light.

With the training from Evita her voice was probably the best it had ever been and she seemed to be in a good place spiritually and with her personal life (iirc her daughter was born in or around the time of making the album?) Orbit did a great job with the album as well and the album explored different musical genres. The lyrics are just fantastic as well.

Just my personal opinion but I think Ray of Light is not only her best album but one of the best albums of all time.

going decade-by-decade, my faves are Like A Prayer, Ray Of Light, Confessions On A Dancefloor and Rebel Heart; voted for Confessions because to me it's a great listen from start to finish, but Rebel Heart is an extremely close second

I could listen to any of her albums quite happily - although Hard Candy and Bedtime Stories are a bit of a chore

Best is American Life, very closely followed by Erotica and LAP

I'm surprised that Bedtime Stories seems quite unpopular, I think it's a brilliant album and criminally underrated. One of my favourite ballads, Take a Bow, is on there as well as Love Tried to Welcome Me and also the experimental Bedtime Story and Sanctuary.

True Blue is so popular and I can understand why, but I don't think it's anywhere near her best album. Don't get me wrong, Live to Tell, Papa Don't Preach, Open Your Heart and La Isla Bonita are brilliant songs and were massive hits, but she was yet to reach her artistic peak at that stage. Like a Prayer was when we first saw that she should record a truly classic album and in the 90s she just got better in my opinion - at was her creative peak. Erotica is another underrated album and of course Ray of Light is rightly considered by many to be her best album of all.

Live To Tell is a masterpiece. She wrote the lyrics for it within an hour according to Patrick Leonard. Its still my favourite song of hers.

I would have opted for Ray Of Light if the poll was still open though rather than True Blue. Ray Of Light was ahead of its time but on time. Its a shame that after being so out of the box and creative with her visuals that era she went back to just being a popstar this past decade. I do wonder if she has one last epic album left in her. I think she probably has but its a case of when we will get it... right now she is just ruining her legacy with shite like Bitch I'm Madonna.

I find Take a Bow quite dull but Bedtime Story is fantastic. I can just imagine her singing 'Let's get unconscious honey' while chasing after Guy R with a hammer.

Yes, I would like another classic leftfield album. With the right producers she could definitely pull it off.

She's always constantly trying to evolve and keep being hip and on trend with what the current music trends are but its a fine line. Some of the current music trends and ideas just don't suit her and as a result most of her recent stuff has been absolute shite.

One thing is though you can't ever rule her out, she could come back with an album one day that blows everyone away. It's not like she hasn't done it before.

Blasphemy! It's a stunning song and the video is equally beautiful (minus the bull being slaughtered), it reminds me of when I went to Ronda.

But you're right about Guy Ritchie.

Yes, I was listening to the Ray of Light album the other day and I thought to myself: "is this really the same woman who released Bitch I'm Madonna?". It has to be one of the worst singles she's ever released.

Actually, this post sums up exactly how I feel. Ray of Light is my favourite album of hers, followed by Erotica and Like a Prayer.

True Blue us my favourite as well, I loved that era!

I agree that ROL is her best album and that Erotica is well underrated!

Rat Of Light imo is her best album, musically and vocally, she and William Orbit were a great team and they created a masterpiece!

Bitch I'm Madonna is indeed the worst thing she's ever done, so lame imo, loved the video though!

The greatest artist of the 20th century. All her albums are great in their own way.
Special mentions would go to the ground breaking Ray of Light, I remember hearing that album for the first time and been blown away by it, I actually wore the CD out through usage. Like a Prayer was a game changer for her, she could have continued in the same vein as previous albums but chose not to, it was controversial and deeply personal. Erotica was Madonna going through another stage and not afraid to put out a controversial record. Bedtime Stories an underrated album that when one revisits one can appreciate its brilliance. Confessions, right on trend a great lead single, great imagery and a solid gold return to the dance floor. There is no one like her now nor will there ever be.

Like a Prayer walks all over her other albums in my opinion its such a solid album.

That said, Ray of Light was also a strong album. Confessions on the Dancefloor was very anti climax for me, Hung Up was so good the other tracks could never live up to it. That does not mean i think its her worst album, that title easily goes to Erotica.
