1.5m incl +1. A little bit down, but still decent and will get officially around 1.9m-2.0m.

So eviction got 1.6m.
But last night... Channel 5 (exc. +1) Celebrity Big Brother: 1.61m (7.9%) Surprising increase, could be 1.8m when +1 is added. |

Channel 5 (exc. +1)
Celebrity Big Brother: Live Final: 1.69m (10.0%) Celebrity Big Brother's Bit on the Side: 0.71m (8.5%) So 1.8m incl +1 then, which would make it up slightly from the 1.74m incl who watched last summers final. |

What does Channel 5 consider to be good ratings?
These figures are all lower than C4 were getting when they dropped the show. |

the number of alternative tv channels has changed since then too
if c5 is beating itv2 (it's main demographic target is the same for this show) and batting close to c4 figures it did it's job |

if c5 is beating itv2 (it's main demographic target is the same for this show) and batting close to c4 figures it did it's job but BB was used by c4 to launch their new channels like 4music... there just was not the number of alternative channels... hence the higher but steadily declining figures for all tv shows from Corrie to BB over the last 15 years... So if BB is attracting key results in a specific age group (the total figures do not show that) then BB on c5 is working... BB is aimed at the MTV/ITV2 age group and viewer... I bet it is doing well against ITV2 and I bet it was also embarrassing C4 who aim at a larger wider audience in that time slot. but BB can not be compared to BB during the height of C4 use... it is not meant to be doing the same job and it is not aimed the same audience... and that is one reason c4 dropped it... the "space" and "need" has changed. |

as i said a few times on these threads...
the TOTAL number of viewers is not a sign of the shows success... and the breakdown given misses the most important bit... if it hits the demographics the advertisers have paid to be seen by or not... https://www.theguardian.com/media/20...rother-x-files Celebrity Big Brother equalled its highest ever share of viewing among 16- to-34-year-olds. and CBB was a massive success for c5... hitting the age group well in the ages they had promised to hit... (and when tv channels sell advert space they make a performance promise on who will be watching... and certain groups are worth more than others... if they miss, the channel normally has to give free advert spaces for future adverts or refunds) |

CBB does well in young audiences and does well in overall audience for C5 too. BUT you saying that the overall audience doesn't matter and only the young demo does in this country is incorrect. If that was the case, the likes of Strictly in this country will be flops because out of it's 10m viewers, barely 10% of them are under the age of 35. Whereas CBB has a 25%+ audience for young people. If only that mattered, then CBB would be more successful than Strictly, but no, it isn't. If this was the US, CBB would be huge and Strictly wouldn't have lasted this long because they ignore people over the age of 49 there. In this country, the media focuses on overall audience and the channels themselves looks into both overall AND young audiences. Not like US when it doesn't matter whether you have 50m watching a show, if it is very low skew in young audience, it will be a flop. Shows such as Hollyoaks and all those scripted TV shows here would be huge over there because of it's demo. Whereas shows like Antiques Roadshow, Countryfile etc... would be flops over there and get cancelled despite it's success here. Broadcasters themselves may look at the young audience of course, but sadly, the media doesn't care about young demo. The media sees 2m viewers and think "urgh what a flop... Strictly's doing 10m" |

Look at "I'm a Celebrity", for example. It hasn't even had a steady decline, let alone the sort of declines we've seen for BB. |

Not all TV shows have declined, and BB's decline went through abrupt changes, rather than being steady.
Look at "I'm a Celebrity", for example. It hasn't even had a steady decline, let alone the sort of declines we've seen for BB. On C5, both the celebrity and regular series bar a couple of series (CBB16 and BB16) have been incredibly steady throughout. |

I think the declines for BB is more for the latter part of the C4 era and it's transition from the last civilian on C4 to the first civilian on C5.

C5?) still keep messing with the format, like they're desperately fighting to hold off an impending catastrophic loss of viewers. |

Guys - do you think the rumoured 'Gold Stars vs New Stars' will hold steady against all the other January editions?
It seems like a very unoriginal and desperate move following CBB18, they can't exactly afford to lose any more viewers .. |
