I was looking through old charts online and thought it was crazy to see how many artists had success in 2012 and yet only four years later are completely irrelevant or don't release music anymore.

Cover Drive - #1 single, #4 single, released an album, flopped and dissapeared off the face of the earth by the summer of that year.
Psy - Gangnam Style was a global smash hit. One hit wonder, obviously. Tried to replicate the success with Gentleman in 2013 but failed.
Fun. - We Are Young and Some Nights were huge hits. Where are they now?
Gotye - Another one hit wonder.
Tulisa - Big #1 single, was supposed to be the next breakout judge from X-Factor and flopped miserably.
Alex Clare - Had a hit with Too Close. One hit wonder again.
Plan B - Was already huge but had the ill Manors era in 2012 and hasn't been seen since. Doesn't seem to be working on any other music at this time.
Conor Maynard - A number of top ten singles, think his album went to #1, vanished completely aside from a random top ten single at the end of 2013.
Stooshe - Looked set to be the next huge girl group after the success of Black Heart. What happened?
Alyssa Reid - Another one hit wonder with Alone Again.
Dappy - Released his album and a few successful singles. Vanished after that.
Alexandra Burke - Again was already a star but her album in 2012 seemed to end her career?
JLS - Were starting to decline this year with the Sports Relief single flopping. They announced their split the following year.
B.O.B - So Good and Both Of Us done alright in the charts and seemed to have built a decent fanbase in the UK but hasn't charted since.
Train - Their final hit with Drive By?
Far East Movement - Had a Justin Bieber collab and Cover Drive collab then vanished.
Rita Ora - Had two big #1 singles, #1 album and now doesn't even seem to release music as a career.
Lawson - Same as Conor Maynard basically, had a decent first album campaign and vanished.
Amelia Lily - Was tipped as a big star from X-Factor and managed to get three singles out before vanishing.
Misha B - See Amelia Lily.
Owl City - Seemed to be a one hit wonder in 2012 but got another hit this year. Will they get another one in the future?

You could throw in Carly Rae Jepsen but she managed to get a big hit last year. Would also have thrown in Rizzle Kicks but they got a hit with Skip To The Good Bit, too.

I've noticed a few people online comment about the "curse of the 2012 charts" in that pretty much nobody aside from the A-Listers that year are still releasing music. It's pretty sad to see how quick the public are to throw an artist away and lose interest.

Not sure if Psy can really be included here, I mean yeah he didn't manage to get a second "Gangnam Style" smash hit, but no artist in the music industry has experienced that level of success from one song, ever. Psy was the very first and to this day is the only one to have a song of such immense (though fleeting) popularity. And you know the saying "The bigger they are, the harder they fall"

Thing is though, Psy was a huge deal in South Korea pre-Gangnam Style, and he still is to this day, I think his facebook page has been full of recent performances in South Korea to 80,000 odd people, and to be fair, South Korea really is his target demographic.

As for his international appeal, that's obviously waned, but Gentleman, Daddy and Napal Baji have all done quite well really, so I think he's still quite the success all things considered, even if it's not to such extraordinary heights as he once was at.

Great list!

Stooshe recently tried to launch a comeback, and tried a comeback last year as well. This is their current new comeback song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SpmJzOFhruw

A lot of those were one hit wonders and a lot, strange circumstances. I know Rita Ora's been put on hold by legal and personal disputes with Calvin Harris. This is why you don't date and then break up with the sole producer of your tracks who holds the copyrights.

I'm not going through you're whole list, but, looking at this thread, and the artists below, it would seem you need to look beyond the charts and TV & radio play to hear music from artists you like now.

http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showthread.php?t=2146338

Cover Drive done this in 2014 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L3Q3VdUwepM

Train are still releasing singles. Their latest 2 are Bulletproof Picasso and Give it all from a few months ago

Stooche are the same. 2 singles this year. Lock down and let it go

If you appreciate an artist you must check their VEVO / Youtube accounts, their wikipedia entries and discographies, and their social media. The charts are corrupt and dead now.

Bleachers have grown into a fantastic live band, with an energetic stage show.
It's only Jack from Fun that's involved though.

I think Gotye will be back , he made enough of that record that he can take his time on a follow up

A lot of those acts might still be releasing music but it just might not be in the main UK charts, which are not really accurate any more because of bloody streaming being included Maybe look outside the charts and TV/radio to see what's going on. Psy doesn't really count since his target market is South Korea. As for Gotye, he had released music before his big hit in 2012, which might have been more popular in international markets: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gotye_discography

Conor Maynard is the one which surprised me the most.

He had a run of top 10 singles and then he went AWOL for about 18 months. Then he returned with a track written and produced by Craig David and it bombed.

Craig David appeared on The X Factor live final and is now as popular as he was at the start of his career. Maybe Conor needs to appear on The X Factor to get some more success.

Oddly enough, Conor is now doing incredibly well on YouTube with his covers of chart hits - some of them are better, imo, than the original like his version of Rihanna's Work (that's right, Conor made a crap song sound bearable ).

I wasn't really into his music until Turn Around became a hit single and that was the song that made me like Conor. R U Crazy was a step in the wrong direction imo.

I could be wrong but I think that Owl City was around before 2012. He had a big hit here with Fireflies but I think that was around 2009/10. After that he released another single, called Vanilla Sky, which was a decent track and got a lot of airplay, but flopped. Then he resurfaced in 2012, and as you say hasn't released anything since. Cover Drive as you say seemed to disappear very quickly, I actually downloaded Twilight again last year and wondered what had happened to them. Amelia Lily I think released a comeback single around 2014 but it only got to something like #80 in the charts.

Tulisa did actually attempt a comeback early last year with Living Without You, which I actually thought was a good track that had the merit of being extremely catchy, and the radio station I listen to really bigged it up. The video is absolutely cringeworthy though, and it literally just missed out on the top 40 by one placing. I think they got the release all wrong, if they'd gone with the summer months and actually made an effort with the video, it may have done well. I think it was one of those instances where it was make or break, and as the track flopped that was essentially it for her music career.
