While I was playing a music CD my Sony BDP-S4100 Blu-ray player suddenly cut out. Unplugging from the mains and plugging in again does nothing. There is no display and no noise.

Does this sound terminal? I hope not, as I have never had an electronic device fail in such a short time. I bought it in January 2014 and it hasn't been used a great deal. And if it's completely dead, how do I get the CD out?

I'll be most grateful for any advice.

Have you checked the fuse?

I think that unit uses a separate mains PSU, so it could be the unit itself faulty, or the PSU - you could do with borrowing a PSU from someone, to see if that cures it.

As far as removing the CD goes, if you take the top off (with the unit unplugged of course), you can usually see the mechanism and motor/belt that ejects the door, and spin it with your finger.

Thanks to both of you for your replies.

Yes I had tried changing the fuse in the plug.

I've opened it up and had to completely remove the drive to force the door open. I don't think there's much chance of getting it all back together again, so I'll be looking for a replacement.

I particularly want to play 3D blu-ray discs and Super Audio CDs, so it'll probably have to be another Sony. The BDP-S6500 at around £99 looks good, but do any other manufacturers include Super Audio playback?
