Eastenders getting a raw deal at the minute?
There seems to be a lot of comment and talk about Eastenders lacking direction at the moment which I would agree is true- however the last two weeks have in my opinion shown some really good character development.
Paul really grew on me before he left but since then the male teens particularly seem to all be progressing quite well. Ben and Johnny have had great interaction, and jay and lee have also put in some strong performances within their current storylines. In some ways I quite like the fact we don't know what's coming up as it is fun to speculate and makes more. of a surprise. Tonight's episode has the potential to be really good if it is done right too. What are everyone else views about the current position of the show? |

Agreed completely. I haven't enjoyed much of EE for a while but the last few weeks have been strong IMO. When they hit upon a decent storyline, like exploring the effects of a hate crime, the show can still be very powerful. And like you I've enjoyed seeing the young male adults being developed, in particular Lee and Johnny who were in severe need of it.

It's not too bad just a few changes and the pace picking up a bit.

Even Louise has been developed a bit this week and it's what she needed!

I agree Goosebee. 2016 has been fairly decent overall minus the Claudette/Gavin horror show. Quote:

I think sometimes people just take it all too seriously!
The last few weeks have been really good! and its actually nice to see the likes of Johnny outside of the Vic, as well as seeing him grow as a character. I think the next few weeks will continue to be good, and as soon as we start to get SOC's stories coming up and moving forward I think we could be in for some great drama. All soaps go through low points, and its always going to be difficult when the people at the top are leaving/starting as they both want to leave their mark. |

If they just have Steven on screen for a full half hour it'll be the best soap ever.

I actually think the last couple of weeks have been good. I know SOC name is now on the credits but obviously we are still seeing DTC work but there have been little things that have made me think he may be having an influence, the Lee/Martin scene in the cafe for instance was good and one of the first time Lee has interacted with him despite them both working within 2 metres of each other. I also loved how we got such a wide reaction from characters over Paul's death and certainly hasn't been forgotton. It seems Donna's quest for a baby has now been dropped, again this could be SOC influence. Yes there are still issues...Kathy playing a totally different character being a major factor but the show is no where near as bad as what people are making out.

I've only recently started watching EastEnders regularly again, and I have been impressed with the last few weeks. The hate crime story has really drawn me back into the show again, and I also like Lee and Whitney together, with Lee unsure over fatherhood. I enjoyed his scene with Martin on Tuesday when he confided in him.
I dipped in and out of the show when they were developing Lee's depression story but I hope they revisit it properly during Whitney's pregnancy. |

I wasn't overly impressed. Too many half a of each pairing I don't really care about.

It's not getting a raw deal, it's just not very good. That's what you get when you have three incompetent producers in a row.
