Do you remember this boyband classic?

Such an amazing, summery tune but it turned out to be the last release from One True Voice as it inexplicably flopped. I guess their target market at the time didn't have a clue who Shakespeare was so the song went over their heads

I remember that song and the group. The two singles they released weren't anything exciting. It could have been Blue or any other boyband of the time singing them. Girls Aloud on the other hand were brilliant. They had so many good songs and their albums and B-sides are full of hidden gems.

Take That - Back For Good, Never Forget, Pray and A Million Love Songs.
East 17 - Stay Another Day. The Backstreet Boys song am not sure about it's catchy though. One Direction What Makes You Beautiful is same for me. The songs at the top TT & East 17 just have more depth to me and appear to connect with a larger demographic and audience from what I've seen. Obviously both Take That and East 17 were boybands however the fact they were built around one singer songwriter shows they had some pure musical intent and weren't just reliant on outside pop by numbers writers. This makes all the others sound the same Backstreet Boys included. I also think both were also still at an early stage (if you consider Bros/New Kids style of boyband just before them as the first of what we know as boybands) and pushed each other to be better and more creative. The boybands that followed could afford to be lazy (Westlife) on all accounts as a set template and assured (for most part) formula was in place. |

So, I think we've come to the conclusion theres no place for music snobbery. A good song, although subjective, is a good song.
