Emma's terrible exit interviews at the final

I watched them again, Emma was absolutely appalling.

Most of the 'difficult questions' she answered with an excuse for the HM concerned before they even got a chance to respond, basically just leaving them to agree with the 'get out of jail' card she'd just given them.

One of her rambling questions went on for about half a minute when she could have asked (for example, can't be bothered to watch it again) 'how does it feel to come third?'.

She barely let a HM finish a sentence. One HM (Hughie?) apologised for interrupting her during one of her interruptions and she shrieked 'no, we want to hear from you!' (well let them bliddy well talk then you mare!).

She kept telling Jason that he's a man of few words, but he was only allowed to get a few words out, and clearly was happy to talk, before she interrupted him again.

I noticed she didn't really look at her cards even when she had some in her hand. I'm not casting any accusations at Emma whatsoever but the whole thing reminded me of trying to have a conversation with someone in a bar and realising pretty quickly they're off their head on coke.

Very disappointing, and the worst I've seen of Emma (although I've never thought she was a good main show interviewer)

In fairness to Emma she had a tight time slot to get the interviews done. Not one of the BB contestants were never going to get all the air time, when it comes to a live Final.

it has always been like that.

Watch them again (if you can bring yourself to!!!) - that's not my point at all (though it is a good one that they had too many to get through). If time is short you don't spend (I estimate) up to 75% of each interview waffling yourself. You ask them short, sharp, probing questions

I watched again last night too and I agree - terrible interviewer for most of them

I like Emma and you can see her passion for BB but her interviews irritate me. I want to see housemates really get questioned and given a grilling!

She barely delved into the behaviours of Marco, Natalie and Georgina to name a few, who really needed questioning!

I like Emma but I will always remember her interview with Helen Wood. Yes Helen is vile but Emma had to be professional but all she done was stick up the "legends" Brian and Nikki. I dont like Helen but Nikki and Brian went back in thinking they were something special. Brian was a really disturbing character I thought, his anger was unnatural at times. Brian and Nikki are clearly Emma's friends but that shouldn't of had any influence on her interview.

I know this is old news but it still winds me up as this is how Marc didnt win that year. They all claimed he bullied Brian along with Helen yet all they could remember him doing was splashing him once. I hope they never bring "legends" back again.

nattoyaki -

I know , I know , agree with you entirely , she somehow gets it in her head that she's the interviewer and interviewee .

very disappointing I agree

she never even asked Jackson "what was that bollocks all about not turning for your kid, you utter bellend?"

short, sharp and to the point

Emma was fine...

what she needed was a Jason in between her and the manboy Hughie who had had too much sugar in his breakfast cereal to stop him lifting her up and flinging her about.

The time issues and the last minuteness of live tv makes her job difficult.

I think Andy West ought to get the job

Emma can still 'talk to the house', she's ok at that bit

I want a grilling on bad behaviour or dramatic incidents too. I do understand giving overall positive interviews to the finalists (to an extent) and like you do can see her passion and like her. She rocked on BOTS imo, absolutely loved her on that.

The final apart, absolutely agreed on Marco, Natalie, Georgina and others.

Thanks Virgil, you reminded me of exactly the point of that came to me on rewatch and again as I posted.

Why doesn't she just interview herself and let the HM concerned watch on?

For years now there have been far too many housemates in the last few days. This has resulted in a rushed, non-event final, cramming everyone's exit interview into the allotted space of time, whilst robbing them of the opportunity to talk about their BB experience. Even the winner isn't worthy of the airtime needed to justify their victory.

It only ever worked with the final four housemates battling it out for the crown. Channel 5 are just greedy in the pursuit of ratings and never give the viewers what they want.

Even Rylan is a better listener than Emma.

I think I will go back and watch the Charlie interview again as that was one of the worst 'offenders' this series (out of many).

Great post and for me this series has been the worst ever. It was at least a week too short. We should have had days to assess the new dynamic in the house after the surprise evictions of Sam and Alex.

Imo every interview should be a whole programme segment long (around 11/12 minutes?) and every evicted HM deserves their crowd leaving and full interview. OK they don't have time for that with six in the final but the winner and runner up both deserve full interviews imo

Absolutely!

The only time I've seen her grill somebody and rightly so, was Winston on CBB. I want her to ask grilling questions, it's part of her job!

For example, gearing up to tell Natalie that Hughie had never name called Lateysha, before letting Natalie cut her off and ignore it. Emma needs a backbone as such.

I feel she is too controlled by her ear piece and let down by lack of time. It always feel rushed and it's sadly not down to her.

Well her voice is down to her..The screeching has become unbearable.

Again, it's down to the producers. They try and cram too much in and focus on the wrong things.

Jason, the winner, barely got to utter 3 words before being shown his BOTS bits. Soon after we had to endure minutes of some shitty song sung by all the housemates, none of whom could sing.

Priorities.

I know most on here disagree, but I thought Brian Dowling was actually very good at the eviction interviews - far, far better than Emma.

The problem with Brian was he was awful at the autocued and 'talks to the house' bits. But he wasn't a bad interviewer at all.

did Brian ever do BOTS, I think he'd be suited to that, having a whole audience to bounce off, certainly he'd be a vast improvement on Rylan?

I thought at the time that he should have been doing BOTS and Emma the main show. He's much, much better ad-libbing.

p.s. anyone would be a vast improvement on Rylan

I preferred Brian too. He was less polished than Emma but much more natural
