CS: Maria the 'stalker/bunnyboiler'
That was her last real storyline, over two years ago, her only one during the Blackburn era, but what did any of you think of it?
For me, as a long term fan who remembers all her history the idea sounded brilliant!! As a character in the 6 years leading up to it she'd gone through more shit & bad luck, much of it involving blokes, than most women would have in a lifetime so when she finally thought she'd found one she could trust totally, ie Marcus (whatever the rights or wrongs of the relationship in the first place) then it was not unreasonable for him cheating on her as well to be the straw that broke her & brought on some reaction or breakdown!! So far so good!! The problem was that, unlike with current Corrie, those past traumas were never even referenced thrrefore to anyone who wasn't a fan, didn't know/remember her past, she came over as a complete nutjob throwing a tantrum just because her gay boyfriend had cheated on her!! This was pretty much unforgivable but then they just sent her off for 5 weeks, she came back fully recovered & neither her breakdowm nor the consequences to Fiz & Ty were barely mentioned again?? Where I'm leading (admittedly rather laboriously) with this is the new upcoming s/l where she
Spoiler
I really hope I'm wrong but the way Kate Oates has worded it I'm thinking they are going to turn this into a similar 'stalking' thing, almost implying this is the sort of character she is!! If so it is horribly bad writing to me!! The circumstances couldn't be more different & the whole Tyrone stalking thing was a one off due to a breakdown caused by all I mentioned earlier!! To have her repeat that for absolutely no reason would be diabolical!! Any opinions (if you're still awake!!) |

Dreary Maria's upcoming storyline will still be as dull and pointless as any of her previous supposedly "explosive" plots.
And probably all over as quickly as possible. |

I never understand the dislike to Maria. She's often sidelined by other characters and spent many years living in Carla's shadow (along with Michelle's shadow of being her ally). Maria deserves a lot more. Her rivalry with Leanne back in 2004 was a great year for the character.
I'm looking forward to the Aidan/Eva/Maria storyline. Her and Eva are great characters and if Caz becomes involved, it'd be good to see Maria maybe toughen up. |

I'm reserving all judgement until I see how it all plays out. There really was a missed opportunity to really explore Maria's damaged psyche and extreme actions in the last storyline, but typical of Blackburn it just suddenly vanished along with Max's ADHD, Michelle's forgetten son and Audreh's damp spot. I have enough faith in Kate Oates to storyline this in a believable way. From the sounds of things, it's going to involve more than just Aidan, Eva and Maria, so watch this space.

I like Maria, she is drop dead gorgeous and the girl next door type.
I don't think her bunny boiling is over In fact I hear she has recently been to London to dig up poor hercules edit sorry read the full post now. I think it is out of character, the whole Tyrone episode was. surely they could come up with something better |

If they do play it that way it could still be lnteresting & realistic!! My trouble is I've got so used to getting my interest raised, only to be bitterly disappointed by Mr Blackburn's storylines I'm almost programmed to it now!! I do so agree about that missed opportunity from the whole Marcus split thing though, that could have been just so good a storyline if handled right!! I'm not too bothered about

Your Leanne/Maria reference makes me smile as those two are two of the biggest reasons I loved the 00s & together they were brill!! I'm wondering if this storyline will reference those times with Leanne being Eva's sister!! Both girls are a lot different now but I would love to see them lock horns again!! |

The hide of a rhinocerous! The ability to laugh at yourself! A good flak helmet! An encyclopaedic knowledge of her background so at least you can win technical arguments! Blind faith that her next storyline is going to be a good one!! The ability to sympathise with those less fortunate still, ie fans of Fiz, Sean, Anna, Izzy, Michelle etc!! We keep our collective peckers up where Maria is concerned!!

Is her becoming a lesbian with Caz still a possibility or not?

![]() Lol!! Not that I'm aware of!! Think those rumours came from wishful thinking by certain forum members when they heard she was moving into Maria's flat!! However this is Kate Oates so..... |

Seemed like another pointless plot, like a lot of storylines. Apparently going off on holiday a couple of weeks cures a mental breakdown.

I can't say I am a fan of Maria becoming a bunny boiler again. It's the only plan I've heard from Kate Oates that I am feeling wary about and not really looking forward to.
Maria has always come across as one of the nice, 'ordinary' characters of the Street and I would like her to stay that way rather than become a bunny boiler. I was more hoping we would see a storyline where Caz becomes obsessed and possessive of Maria and starts stalking her, slowly wanting to become exactly like her and trying to steal her life away. She stalks her, but makes out she is trying to protect her from whoever the stalker is. Maria and Caz go abroad on a girls holiday, and Maria discovers the truth which ends in a violent showdown. Next thing, Maria returns from her holiday alone and Caz has vanished. Caz's family/Kate immediately become suspicious of Caz's disappearance and the police start snooping around. Maria is hiding something - did she accidentally kill Caz or did something else happen that caused her to disappear without a trace? Maria knows more than she's letting on.... |

Does seem something bad will happen to her because of Caz at some point! I'm hoping I'm reading too much into the stalking thing with

I like Maria (Although I have to laugh at the dreary jokes
) and I agree she has been the victim of the writing sometimes especially with the Tyrone obsession which I think was a low point for her character especially because it just vanished into thin air after it came out into the open without the aftermath being dealt with. I hope we're not going to see a repeat of this, I'd like to see Maria in a stable relationship now tbh.
