She's never had a No. 1 single on the UK Top 40 singles chart, a disappointment for someone so well-known and famous. She's only had one No. 1 album.

How come she isn't bigger?

She's not very good and was always over-shadowed by Michael. Her best song for me is Together Again, very catchy.

I quite like Together Again, which like the above post states in probably her best song, and I do still hear it played a fair bit, but I wouldn't say it was brilliant.

She's an amazing artist, Rhythm Nation 1814 and Velvet Rope are two of my favourite albums of all time.
Sadly she's always been overshadowed in the UK by her brother, Madonna, Kylie etc. Her music is more appealing to an American audience I think.

I think her time in the UK has been and gone really. Her early stuff - Control, Rhythm Nation and Janet were all fantastic albums but then I think the three year gap between All For You and Damita Jo pretty much put an end to any ongoing interest in her in the UK apart from her hardcore fanbase.

She was great when she released "Control", "Rhythm Nation", "Janet" and "The Velvet Rope". Everything after that has been terrible. There were glimmers of excellence on her recent album but they were few and far between. Let's hope she finally get's it right on the next one, but I can't see it happening, tbh.

She only has a music career because of Michael. She wouldn't have got anywhere near a record contract if her family wasn't well connected. I've never rated her. She's a mime artist just like Britney Spears.

As much as I loved and adored Michael, he wasn't above miming himself. I saw him 3 times in concert, but he never performed a full show without miming.

"Bad Tour"
"Dangerous tour" - part mimed
"HIStory tour" - completely mimed.

Together Again was a big seller but got released around the same time as My Heart Will Go On.

True that. It's sold in the region of 800k in the UK so it can definitely be classed as a legitimate hit

I'm not sure any of her other hits come even close those those sales though. I love her though. Her latest album was her best since Velvet Rope IMO. Totally underrated.

Unbreakable is truly outstanding....give it a few listens and you'll probably agree.

I have played it constantly since November, and albums usually run out of steam way sooner for me.

Janet had her fair share of success in the 90s/early 00s. Sure, her commercial appeal died down after the Superbowl, but then even Madonna's new music doesn't sell that well anymore....

I think Janet is great but her diction is appalling. She mumbles quite a lot of her singing. Some of it is nearly impossible to understand. Doesn't really matter is probably the worst for her being incomprehensible (but it's a great song )

No way is together again her best song..it's really annoying.
unless its the DJ premier remix... which gets no airplay.

Lol at putting her on Britney Spear's level. She is head and shoulder above her.

She was huge between '86-'98. Loads of really big artists have never had a no1 single, The Who for instance.

Her late 80s output was anything but bland, it was groundbreaking.

Her commercial and creative peak was between '86-89.
