Virgin Mobile intermittent receipt of Texts & Voicemail

I live in a poor mobile reception area.

Every week or so, I do not get the weekly bank text, nor any other texts or voicemails.

And calls don't get through to the handset.

Even being outside, once they stop, they do not reappear.

What I have to do, is call a number (usually a 0800 number) this seems to kick start the service, and I then get all my missing texts and voicemails.

Any idea why, anything I can do apart from ringing out when I haven't received any texts or calls for a few days ?

Try and do a manual network search and attempt to connect to a different network, it will be refused but then when you reconnect to Virgin the missing texts and voicemail notifications might come through.

(This basically causes the handset to de-register and then re-register on the network/ HLR, and can sort out a log jam of incoming messages.)

Or......

Just power down, then power up...

Does the same thing.

This is what I do now.

Have you considered moving to another provider that can offer coverage solutions for your house? Some of them even work for other areas too.

3, EE, O2 and Vodafone offer 3G signal boosters that create a small 3G network from your broadband connection. Additionally, if you have a compatible device, you can use WiFi Calling (EE fully supported, Vodafone is Voice only) or apps (3 and O2) to make and receive calls and texts.

All of the above options require being a subscriber of one of the networks directly and not an MVNO (such as Virgin).
