Shirley And Phil (Eastenders)
Shirley is an amazingly underrated character. Who is so overshadowed by the rest of the Carter family, she deserves a story of her own. I think she has real chemistry with Phil. Wouldn't it be great if they come back together.

No it really wouldn't. In my opinion Phil is better suited to Sharon relationship wise.
They don't work on a relationship level cos Phil's feelings have never run as deep as they did with Sharon, Dead Kathy, Lisa, Kate even Stella. however, they do work as friends and I think it should just stay that way, we did she on screen even Shirley finally realising this on Friday I do think Shirley needs more scenes with the carters, I like her with them but we barely get any scenes since Dean went |

The idea that a man like Phil, that could have any woman he wanted, would be interested in someone like Shirley would be laughable beyond belief. He is much better off with Sharon with Kathy waiting as a potential back-up if things go pear-shaped with Sharon.

Linda Henry is one of the most underrated actresses and Shirley has sadly been underused for over a year. I hope the new executive producer lines up some good storylines for her. It's a possibility she will get back with her ex, Phil especially with Buster leaving. However, Phil and Sharon have just reunited and it appears she is the new matriarch of the Mitchell's. I think it's time for Sharon to leave the Mitchell fold because she is ruined by her association with them. Shirley works well with the Mitchell family and I still like her to share scenes with them if her and Phil don't get back together. But I'm not one of the writers
![]() There is a lot they can do with the character and they could always give her a cancer storyline and I think Linda would be fantastic. I think they're struggling to come up with storylines for Shirley at the moment

I do think his relationship with Sharon has run its course. As for him loving other women more his never been that picky and his relationship with Shirley lasted far longer then the others. |

I gracefully disagree. He is closer in character to Shirley than Sharon I think they're ill suited . He's relationship with Sharon has done nothing but regress backward since they got married.

She not a munter, she has a striking look about her and personality wise they're very similar. Sharon and him clearly are not working and he shown little interest in reuniting with Kathy. |

I hope not, Phil really makes Shirley weak as a character.

I love Shirley but I would worry about her getting back with Phil. Any character who comes within his orbit is soon diminished.

Linda Henry is a brilliant actress, one of the best in the show, and Shirley is a brilliant character. It's a shame that she has been in the background all year, I would like her to come back into the fore again with her own storyline. She hasn't been utilised properly at all recently, yet she is (imo) one of the most interesting characters on the show.
I like her relationships with her family but I would like to see more development there, it feels as though this has been neglected this year. Her friendships with Denise and Kathy (although once the truth about Buster comes out, I don't know how long it will last) are a joy to watch, as is her frenemieship with Sharon. I have always loved the rapport Shirley has with Phil. I think Phil is more suited to Shirley than Sharon. If written well, and without regression for either character, especially Shirley, I would like to see Phil and Shirley reunite. Although Phil would need to choose Shirley for it too work. Speaking of the Mitchells, I am hoping that Shirley and Ben will be explored more, they have an interesting relationship that I would like to see revisited properly. I do think Shirley fits in seamlessly with the Mitchells and I hope she continues to share scenes with them. I hope the writers come up with a story for her soon and we see the direction in which SOC will take her. |

Well said.
Lind Henry is one of their finest. It's a great shame she been left in the background. Shirley is the only woman Phil hasn't battered, he even let her get away with shooting him. He loves her, he has treated her badly in the past but mainly because he believes she is better off away from him. I would love to see Shirley and Phil back together. |

Phil and Shirley may well be suited and similar people but that's not how love works, is it? I don't really buy his relationship with Sharon as its been written under DTC but previously I would have said hands down that he loved her above the others, followed by Kathy. DTC seems to have been obsessed with making them a lame version of Den and Angie when in previous versions of their relationship he treated her as an equal and far better than anyone else in his life. In 2001 they made the contrast between his former relationship with Lisa and his relationship with Sharon. However, things change both in life and on screen with different EP's having different agendas. Who knows where this is headed? Consistency has long since been disregarded in this programme. As long as SOC makes a decision and puts this goddam tedious storyline to bed once and for all I'll be relieved. I'm surprised there's anyone left who cares either way.

I've always thought that Shirley works better as that voice of reason that meets Phil on Arthur's bench and when one of them is at their lowest. Any relationship Phil has is toxic - I prefer Shirley and Phil as friends because, let's face it, he would lie to her, trample all over her and put himself first as he does with all of his women. Shirley doesn't need to go back there

Shirley is too good to be stuck with the Carters. She works better with the Mitchells.
