Is WAP free on any network?
Hi
I moved from Vodafone to T-Mobile a year ago, which I immediately regretted as I was being charged loads for my WAP usage, which I believe was free on Vodafone as it was taken out of my free minutes (or it was free to use anyway, I'm not sure which). Because of this, I stopped using WAP, which has been a pain for me, but now that my contract is coming ending, I'd like to get a 6310 or 6310i on a network with free (or cheap WAP). Can anyone confirm that Vodafone WAP is free please? But I'd rather not be limited to one network, so does anyone know for sure that any other network's WAP is free? (Sorry for such a long-winded question, which should actually have been really straightforward!) Cheers

To the best of my knowledge, browsing Vodafone Live pages are completely free and not part of any monthly allowance. I assume you're talking about contract and not PAYG (which I think is free as well).
Accessing other non-Live sites are chargeable at the rate in your contract. Dunno about other networks, though I think Orange and O2 are free so don't see why T-Mobile are different! Beavis |

You get 1MB of free WAP each time you top up by £10 on O2 online pay as you go, plus free texts/mins too.

As long as you have a proxy phone (Sony Ericsson: S700i, K700i, K500i, P900, P910i, P800. Nokia: 6630, 6230, 6260 etc) and most new phones, using o2 you can get free unlimited wap. (gprs)

On ThreeUK you are limited to a walled garden- i.e. no general net. Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone all charge more than £50 for unlimited (where unlimited=1gb) 3G data transfers. You have to pay for GPRS on Orange (from £4 for 4MB) and most other networks. |

I don't pretend to know how it works, but there's something called Proxy Port 8080 that you get with those phones (I have a Nokia6600) and that gives you free unlimited GPRS. Mine was already set when I got the phone, but you find the place to set it in your advanced internet settings apparently. Hope this helps

It's GPRS rather than WAP, so make sure you are GPRS enabled. Enjoy!!

Its a backdoor thats there to give O2s techies & developers access to free GPRS.
Careful not to over use it though, some guys over on the Esato forums claim they lock your SIM if you over use it, plus there is still a charge for some services (o2 mail for example). |

![]() I've gone over to 3 now and thank God for the walled garden. The WG puts you off the idea of mobile internet which is a good thing because in my opinion (call me a traditionalist) it's a crap idea. |

I am trying to do this on my datacard on my laptop, anyone know how I can get this to work? I have tried entering 8080 in the port box but it requires an IP address? Anyone got the proxy one? I'll see if they have it on the settings page @ 02...

Thats brilliant... Didn't even need to activate with one top-up. Isn't it a bit shocking though that anyone can access this from a laptop using a datacard where the manufacturer address isn't registered and an unregistered sim. Means illigal activities are untraceable.

[quote=UNcabled]You don't need to pretend to know how it works, because it doesn't work - at least it didn't when I had an O2 PAYG sim in my P900.. and don't say I did it wrong, because I know my settings
Lmao yep it works alright - been using it for a year, sometimes 24/7 and not been charged a penny. If it ends, it ends, but it has served me well so far!!
