Wilson and Mowbray aren't even close to being joint number ones. Big live matches screened to (potentially) an audience of 10-15 million are rightly considered more prestigious than 10 minutes of edited highlights on Match of The Day. And over several years, these matches stack up. Consider the past six years, during which Mowbray has commentated on three live League Cup Finals, two live FA Cup finals, two live World Cup finals and two live European Championship Finals, in addition to several big England matches, including England v Wales last summer. If Mowbray and Wilson were "more or less joint number ones" then Wilson would have had at least one of those marquee games live - but he hasn't.
I suppose, but as I say, over the course of the season - aside from the tournaments - Wilson and Mowbray do both get their fair share of big games. Over the course of the average weekend, you're just as likely to hear Wilson on a big game as you are Mowbray.

I know Mowbray gets the Cup Final and England games, which are obviously the biggest games on the channel - but they're so rare in the schedules. Over the domestic season I would consider Wilson and Mowbray as near to joint number ones as on any channel - there's certainly less between them that Tyler and Hawthorne on Sky, Fletcher and Darke on BT and Tyldesley and Matterface on ITV. And I can't see anywhere else where Wilson will get the range and quality of matches he's getting on the BBC.

Today's quiz... and one for Welsh folk:

1) Who is the person on the right? Think he manages or at least managed a club recently. Can't recall the name.

2) Who's the man in the middle?

Does Danny Mills have a super agent who has close contacts in the media? Have they chosen him because of his outspoken views and shouty nature? What does he bring to the table when he constantly contradicts himself? A few weeks ago and at the start of the season he thought Manchester United would win the league because they had added 4 world class players and a world class manager. During commentary on Sunday and in fairness to him he said that is why he backed them but in the next minute he went on at length about you can fit an average player into a great team and make them play better but you can't put a player like Zlatan or Pogba into an average team because you would bring their level down and United have very average players.

At the start of the season can anyone name more than 3 players that would be classed as great players and I don't mean on a par with Messi, Ronaldo or Chiellini? De Gea is the only truly great player. Pogba is a level below a truly great player, not only his performances this season but in the Champions League games and the Euros in the summer he doesn't effect change in a game against top level opposition. Zlatan undoubtedly "was" a great player but he lacks pace and doesn't get time in the high intensity of the Premier League that he had in France, Italy or Spain.

Rooney and I am not climbing on the bandwagon saying he is very poor, he "was" a great player but he is barely very good these days and hasn't been for quite a while.. Rashford has the prospect of being a great player but is still on a learning curve other than that who were the top level players that made Danny Mills say at the start of the season that made them in his opinion favourites to win the Premier League? I might say Blind is a great player because he is versatile, a good reader of the game seldom has a poor game and in the right team would show just how good a player he is.

Finally Danny Mills, Owen Hargreaves, Michael Owen just stop taliking, let the comentator commentate and do what a good analyst should do and come in when relevant and be concise instead of repeating, repeating, repeating over and over and over again with the same inane drivel.

Wilson's commentary can be remembered

2006 World Cup
Argentina v Mexico
Italy v Germany

Euro 2016
Wales v Belgium

Bit odd they need two reporters there for a fourth round match, it's not the final or a monster of a derby...

.
Exactly - Mowbray has a domination on the top games not seen on the Beeb since David Coleman in the mid-70s

Don't know if anybody else was listening, but last night when Radio 4 news reported the death of Carlos Alberto they played the clip of the original television commentary of his goal in the 1970 World Cup Final........and they used Hugh John's ITV version not the Beeb's with Ken Wolstenholme!

In the interests of gathering data for some of the unsolved commentary teams, I'd be grateful if you guys could ID the commentators for the following matches:

Birkirkara FC v Hearts, Thu, 14 July 2016 [Premier Sports]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GcucPYns5xU

Rubin Kazan v West Ham United, Wed, 20 July 2016 [Premier Sports]

Brøndby IF v Hibernian, Thu, 21 July 2016 [Premier Sports]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VGnXJDHid6Q

FK Ventspils v Aberdeen, Thu, 21 July 2016 [Premier Sports]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vdo3JExLB2o

Karlsruher SC v West Ham United, Sat, 23 July 2016 [Premier Sports]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVSN7KuR7kU

Cowdenbeath v Celtic U20s, Tue, 16 August 2016 [Premier Sports]

Llandudno v The New Saints - Sat, 20 Aug 2016 [S4C]

Turriff United v Hibernian, Sun, 4 September 2016 [BBC]
http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x4r...-bru-cup_sport

Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City - 28/07/2016 - Sky
This has David Jones down as being the presenter, with Tyler and Provan commentating on the match. If there was a presenter, would there not have been a guest as well? If so, who? Also, was there a reporter? This game was being played in China...

If somebody hadn't logged Jones as being the presenter, I would have assumed that Tyler and Provan were the only people to feature in the broadcast. I would question whether he did actually present the programme.
Manged to solve this myself, as detailed below:

Borussia Dortmund v Manchester City - Thursday, 28 July 2016 - Friendly
Sky Sports 1 / Sky Sports 1 HD

Presented by: David Jones
Guest: Dietmar Hamann
Commentators: Martin Tyler and Davie Provan

Davison wasn't actually the reporter last night, it was just Havord.

Patrick interviewed a couple of Spurs players in a pre-recorded feature before the match... but he wasn't actually employed on the night.

Birkirkara-Hearts and Brondby-Hibs is Rory Hamilton and Michael Stewart

Turriff-Hibs: Alex O'Henley

Two West Ham games - I'd say Des Curran (he is a regular there)
