...are the talkSPORT commentators, not the BT ones.
As TheSubaru2012 has subsequently edited his original post, I'm guessing the game he referred to that Nigel Adderley and Ray Wilkins are covering is Kobenhavn v Leicester City (as I've just heard them do the team news on that game for talkSPORT).

Matt Smith is hosting talkSPORT's coverage of that game tonight - I'm guessing he's not required by BT Sport, what with them only having two live matches with UK involvement.

Tonight is really the first time this season that Ian Darke is being called Darkie by someone sitting next to him.

Which may have been because Jon Champion was commentating on Basel-PSG whilst that game was going on, so must have dubbed his commentary on today.

Anyone know why Lynsey Hipgrave has disappeared from C5's football league highlights?

Thought she was decent but doesn't really need two presenters. Riley doing a solid job on his own

Well, she hasn't done the last two shows, but she may just have had other commitments - as can happen if you make use of freelancers, I suppose. I'm assuming this weekend Riley might be busy on the rugby league.

Andy May was reporting on the Arsenal game for BT so ITV might of took those interviews. I'm pleased Jon Champion was heard on ITV's highlights. He's one of the guys I've grown up listening to and it's a shame him and Peter Drury don't do lot of work on ITV or BBC anymore

Seems overkill to have 4 pundits for a friendly. Really there isnt much point of having Giggs. But Karanka will be an interesting option. I hope that having 4 pundits doesnt become a thing. It is too much.

It's Paul Scholes and Michael Owen on BTS3, I presume Julien Laurens will join the studio team for the highlights at 10:15pm.

Seems like Giggs is becoming one of the regulars for ITV - did the last few games for them at the Euros, was on a game in the last International break and is doing the Spain and Scotland games in the international break.

Agreed - 4 pundits in the studio feels a bit much and it's becoming more common on ITV (think they have 4 for the Scotland game and had 4 towards the end of the Euros). It just means pundits don't have long enough to make their points - particularly on ITV where there won't necessarily be the time available that a specialist sports channel like BT or Sky might have.
In any case, even those 2 channels don't usually have 4 pundits in the studio (or if they do it feels very, very rare).

I preferred the 2 pundit approach ITV had for a while recently - Wright & Dixon felt like one of the better partnerships ITV has had and less pundits meant more time to expand on their thoughts which is no bad thing with Lee Dixon

BBC of course had a 4 man punditry team for England vs Wales where there were 2 pundits for either side (Dean Saunders, John Hartson, Rio Ferdinand and i think Alan Shearer but cant remember). On that occasion it worked as it was bringing together 2 sides and made it 50:50 between the two sides. But on this occasion for ITV it wont be. There will be Karanka supporting Spain, Giggs being impartial and Wright and Dixon supporting England. So it is unbalanced again. Of course as you said it doesnt give pundits enough time to make their points. Hopefully it wont be carnage. Maybe they might have one of the four pitchside but i doubt it.

Seemingly ITV have signed Giggs up on a regular basis, but of course they don't have any regular live football other than England matches, certainly nothing as high profile in any case, so he does those even though he doesn't seem especially relevant.

I seem to remember them using four pundits on one occasion during the Chiles era, when they had Dixon, Keane, O'Neill and Patrick Viera and, as you say, it could work if they had time to make their points and get a discussion going but by and large they don't. Whereas when Des was doing the Champions League, they often only had one pundit, and they had fewer adverts in those days as well.
