Yes, I had to check that too. I was sure Samuel Pepys did the first commentary 😀

You know, Sky could put a permanent message on the screen telling me to download their scores and goals app and I still wouldn't be any more inclined to do so.

If true, are people not allowed a slip of the tongue? He presumably meant 1966.

Depends what your name is. If it's Darren Fletcher, most certainly not.

He also slipped up at the end of the match saying that "Arsenal remain unbeaten in the PL" when he meant Tottenham.

Meanwhile Tyler is really rambling on today.

Glad someone mentioned this, sorry but his commentaries recently have been very much on the poor side and he really just talk's the talk's nowadays.

I noticed it when he just went on what must have been a 3 or 4 minute monologue about Leicester and their Champions League exploits. He was debating with himself and at no point involved Smith in the discussion or poised any meaningful questions or statements (which is what I'd expect if the game is going through a dull spell).

I mentioned this a while back, and I thought it was just me. But he bores the tits off me.

On that occasion it worked as it was bringing together 2 sides and made it 50:50 between the two sides. But on this occasion for ITV it wont be. There will be Karanka supporting Spain, Giggs being impartial and Wright and Dixon supporting England. So it is unbalanced again. Of course as you said it doesnt give pundits enough time to make their points. Hopefully it wont be carnage. Maybe they might have one of the four pitchside but i doubt it.”

Indeed the England/Wales you could just about understand as it was probably done to be neutral in terms of pundits.
England/Spain-wise as you say probably makes less sense - especially given its a friendly.

Been away a bit last few days and only seen bits and pieces of coverage but not particularly impressed by what I have seen.
I thought Pearce's commentary on Bournemouth/Sunderland last night really was terrible. He can produce good commentaries sometimes but often at times can be dreadful.

From what I saw of the NL Derby post-match coverage too, Howard Webb did a fantastic job explaining about the offside rule and the interpretation on it. He was informative, clear and concise. Wright, Rio and 'Arry's contributions in the studio were particularly lacking by comparison.

And sorry but once again I was not impressed by BT's line-up for a pretty big game. Redknapp, Wright and Francis all being used really isn't great.
Redknapp in particular was a bad choice. Hoddle and Jenas are two ex-Spurs pundits who we know can do a good job in the studio and are regularly on BT but instead 'we get 'Arry who is truly awful and like a few others on the channel really should stay on BT Score.

In all honesty of the two BT PL games this weekend, the Saturday line-up sounds stronger on paper.

Also, have to agree with others that the commentator guessing really is getting tedious at the moment.

Most people on here are pretty fair and reasonable and as long as posters are reliable more often than not and reasonable then people are fine with a bit of speculation.

However, some are going a bit overboard and in particular the posting of unconfirmed (and often incorrect) match line-ups in a way that suggests these are the actual line-ups and editing of these later on to the correct line-up really does need to stop.

Firstly, I don't get the point of this. Why not wait an extra 15-20 minutes and actually get the full line-up? What difference would it make?

Also, it just makes the posters who do so look ridiculous - you're not going to be taken seriously by other posters if you constantly make-up information and try to pass it off as fact.

Of course there are grey areas but there's a difference between that and some of what is becoming regular on here.

Let's be clear though - a poster every so often accidentally supplying incorrect info doesn't mean they're unreliable.
For example, I know some posters post weekend World Feed pairings on Friday directly from a website that is normally spot on - I remember it was incorrect for a few games one weekend a while ago but for me I'd still trust the poster if those posts are normally accurate and the website they use normally is.

Longer post than I expected - and don't mean to patronise anyone but I do think on the whole this is a fantastic thread (and the atmosphere less hostile than it has been at points) and I think most of us want to make sure it remains so.
We aren't trying to have a go at posters, we're trying to make it easier for them so they can post without irritating others.
