Well, of course they did use it on Saturday Night Football for a bit, and to my mind, it could have worked in this context, because I have thought that the hour-long build-up on Saturday lunchtime does drag a bit and it would be worthwhile talking about the day's other fixtures, which this would have allowed them to do. Unfortunately other than sticking the fixtures and a bit of team news in the ticker, they didn't actually do any of that. But it could have worked like that, maybe. Maybe it will when they have a dull quota filler in that slot.
Of course, the time that set-up might actually have been useful was after three o'clock because of course the coverage continued until 3.15, and it would have actually been useful to have the scores and teleprinter on then so they could continue the analysis while also bringing us news and scores from the 3pm matches. But of course they didn't do it then. Presumably there are technical reasons why they couldn't just port it across, but surely if there's a time to have a ticker, it's then.

Actually I was wondering about that, I could well imagine quite a lot of the pub audience assuming it was Sky Sports News. It's alright on other sports because it doesn't have as big a pub audience but I can imagine it being confusing in that context.
The BT thing it actually reminds me most of was that stupid idea they had very early on when they had that on screen ticker for the whole of injury time in their live games with the team news on, so you were totally distracted for the last five minutes of the match by "HULL are UNCHANGED" constantly scrolling across the screen. They soon got rid of that.
Some of this is just graphics for graphics' sake, like how they took the opportunity with HD to make the graphics smaller, for no real reason. I prefer the Final Score graphics to Soccer Saturday because they're bigger and clearer and easier to read.

There is that, hyping up Man U matches don't help with criticism of big club bias. Of course we also had the first Friday Night Football which had that enormous montage which ended with "Manchester United live on Sky Sports!" and to hell with the opposition.

Well, despite these exhaustive timings, it actually ended at 4.55 on BBC1 and was dumped back on the red button because the tennis had overrun and couldn't continue on BBC2 because the live rugby was about to kick off. Bit of a traffic jam of live sport, there.
I must say, I did enjoy Alan Green's commentary on Everton vs Swansea yesterday - his catchphrase "Goodness gracious!" twice in quick succession, plus that bit where Phil Jagielka conceded the penalty and he said "Phil knows it! Gylfi knows it!" which really made me chuckle. I really enjoy Green's telly commentaries, much more than I do his radio commentaries probably.
