Graphics aren't new... You've probably seen them before your move etc they aren't much different. The Sky graphics are the same shell since 2007 basically when they had the short-lived bottom scorebar etc. The more recent ones have been around for 4-5 years, with added 'gloss effects / minor style change' at the beginning of last season.

I enjoyed the punditry pre-match from these two. Nice to hear some different voices sometimes. No SSN graphics today so maybe they're just for Saturday games (or better still have been scrapped ).

As mentioned it's been used on tennis and rugby league for a while”

Well, of course they did use it on Saturday Night Football for a bit, and to my mind, it could have worked in this context, because I have thought that the hour-long build-up on Saturday lunchtime does drag a bit and it would be worthwhile talking about the day's other fixtures, which this would have allowed them to do. Unfortunately other than sticking the fixtures and a bit of team news in the ticker, they didn't actually do any of that. But it could have worked like that, maybe. Maybe it will when they have a dull quota filler in that slot.

Of course, the time that set-up might actually have been useful was after three o'clock because of course the coverage continued until 3.15, and it would have actually been useful to have the scores and teleprinter on then so they could continue the analysis while also bringing us news and scores from the 3pm matches. But of course they didn't do it then. Presumably there are technical reasons why they couldn't just port it across, but surely if there's a time to have a ticker, it's then.

Actually I was wondering about that, I could well imagine quite a lot of the pub audience assuming it was Sky Sports News. It's alright on other sports because it doesn't have as big a pub audience but I can imagine it being confusing in that context.

The BT thing it actually reminds me most of was that stupid idea they had very early on when they had that on screen ticker for the whole of injury time in their live games with the team news on, so you were totally distracted for the last five minutes of the match by "HULL are UNCHANGED" constantly scrolling across the screen. They soon got rid of that.

Some of this is just graphics for graphics' sake, like how they took the opportunity with HD to make the graphics smaller, for no real reason. I prefer the Final Score graphics to Soccer Saturday because they're bigger and clearer and easier to read.

There is that, hyping up Man U matches don't help with criticism of big club bias. Of course we also had the first Friday Night Football which had that enormous montage which ended with "Manchester United live on Sky Sports!" and to hell with the opposition.

16:30-17:25 - BBC One in England & Wales”

Well, despite these exhaustive timings, it actually ended at 4.55 on BBC1 and was dumped back on the red button because the tennis had overrun and couldn't continue on BBC2 because the live rugby was about to kick off. Bit of a traffic jam of live sport, there.

I must say, I did enjoy Alan Green's commentary on Everton vs Swansea yesterday - his catchphrase "Goodness gracious!" twice in quick succession, plus that bit where Phil Jagielka conceded the penalty and he said "Phil knows it! Gylfi knows it!" which really made me chuckle. I really enjoy Green's telly commentaries, much more than I do his radio commentaries probably.

Well, I have to say that by the time Man Utd v Arsenal came around I was so sick and tired of Sky's over-promotion that I was utterly bored of it all before it even began. As if the coverage throughout the week wasn't enough, there was a dedicated programme on Sky Sports News prior to the match. I don't have much sporting interest besides football but often wonder how cricket/rugby/tennis fans etc feel about 24/7 football coverage with respect to tuning in to SSN.

Already an overwhelming negative reaction to the Sky Sports News style graphics but I'll add my voice as well. They spent the entire week building the game up on SSN and then when the game finally arrives, they give us more of the same. Different stuff on "the L" admittedly, but it is distracting like you say and takes people's focus away from what people are saying.

As for Giggs, I was pleasantly surprised to see him show up towards the end of ITV's coverage at the Euro's, but ever since then he has been used here there and everywhere and I don't think he adds anything.

Haha, I think that says it all. Well done Sky.

I would imagine that people questioning "what's all this 'ReUnited' stuff about?" would have been going on in households and pubs across the country as well.

Firstly Sky's graphics are poor and dated anyway. The shiny look belongs in the past. Then there's the unnecessary and distracting on-screen graphics during games. How many times do they have to tell us about their Score Centre app? Then there's the "Sky Q 2TB viewers can watch in Ultra HD" message. I'm sure Sky Q viewers are well aware of that already as it'd be one of the main reasons they're paying for it. The team line-up graphics at the start of the second half with the players faces is needless and takes up a huge amount of space for no benefit. The SSN graphics really are the final straw. Half of the time it was advertising the game we were watching the build-up for anyway on he right panel. Oh and then there's the 3 ad break half-time. What's happened to them this season?

BT meanwhile have modern, slick and appropriately sized graphics. I enjoy Howard Webb's contributions too.”

Agree with all of this. Don't give a toss about the app. They can tell me about it another million times, I still won't be interested. Not only do they tell us about it before and after the game, but during it as well! Give it a rest.

I have never been a fan of the graphics running through the two teams just as the second half gets underway, coupled with annoying sound effects. Plus, if something happens straight away it makes them look silly. I think a goal was scored last season before they could finish doing it - serves them right. Besides, people can find out who's playing if they have just tuned in by actually WATCHING THE GAME.

In addition to the above you also have Sky promoting whatever's coming up in the next week on Sky Store/Sky Atlantic shortly after full-time. The presenters normally just about get away with it but it is slightly out of place.

I really like the BT graphics on the other hand- simple, classy and easy to apply to all their football coverage.
That said there are rumours BT's company logo may change and so I wouldn't be surprised if the BT graphics change next season.”

The promotion of films and TV series has been going on for so long now I've kind of got used to it but I remember at the beginning it seemed very out of place. The presenter talking about anything else other than football or other upcoming sporting events is just plain odd.

I like BT's graphics so hopefully any changes won't be too substantial.

Nope, not a fan of either Hoddle or Hargreaves in the commentary box.

Undoubtedly the reason why we are having to put up with this nonsense, but they need to be careful they don't turn customers away. Extremely annoyed with the goings-on at the moment.

At the same time, the fact you had to make that post at all probably suggests it's best you stop doing posts on here about coverage where you second guess who's involved and try to pass it off as the actual line-up.

And I mean that constructively. It makes it easier for all of us - you included.

Don't know but whoever it is is a serial offender.

Funny thing is I added my own guesses today but it was only to test a new feature I've added. Turns out I was right with my prediction of the two Alan's in the commentary box but our friend here changed the lineup to something else. I assumed this had been changed based on fact, but someone actually went out of their way to override my (correct) predictions with their own! Farcical. Slap on the wrist to the culprit, you know who you are.

There is a commentators prediction competition thread if that's your bag.

Also, the following matches played tonight:
