West Ham v Arsenal:

Jake Humphrey as presenter with Rio Ferdinand and Ian Wright as pundits.
Darren Fletcher, Owen Hargreaves and Glenn Hoddle are the commentators

While the show is very clearly just there an add-on to the main match coverage (using nearly all the same people), does look like a strong PL Tonight line-up this evening.

'Is it thermals for the first time this season?'. Bit of a weird handover there by Jake (genuinely his last words before Fletcher started speaking).

Why would Sky use the facebook feed when they have access to the official feed?

Don't think you understood my post. Sky had a Facebook live with the said studio with them watching the official feed on monitors and then discussing/relaying the action to the viewer - Soccer Saturday style... As they couldn't show the game live during the 2:45-5:15 blackout.

Interesting no FL for Bill Leslie over the last 2 weekends. Last weekend on Sky was a 3 PL occasion and Bill was used but no Alan Parry unlike previous 3x PL weekends, interesting to see how much Parry will be used from now on.

Alan Parry's alleged "winding down" is something that's been raised on here every season since I can remember, but there does now seem to be strong evidence to suggest it's happening.

No longer the commentator for the Welsh national team, and now it's he's no longer guaranteed a Premier League game in a three-game weekend.

I expect him to do a game this weekend, but it'll be interesting to see 1) which one; and 2) if he gets one the next time Sky have only three games.

Oh I know, I really don't wanna start a load of pointless speculation but there are facts behind this!

When he stopped doing Wales, he also had less CL games in Sky's last season of having that competition. His PL status generally remained similar in term of number of games but maybe fewer big games (someone else can probably confirm or deny this).

This season has seen a big step change with him not being used every weekend unlike last season. There seemed to be a pattern early on with Leslie doing a PL game when they had 4 on a weekend but that has changed slightly so we'll have to see.

It's about time Leslie got some PL games on a regular basis, I've always enjoyed his commentaries and although I don't hear them much, him & Hinchcliffe are a good partnership criss crossing between the FL & PL.

I'm home in 2 weeks and looking forward to some live PL coverage!

What was Zola like? I'm surprised Souness wasn't used yesterday, he did a big interview in yesterday's Daily Mail based around Sky's PL coverage over Christmas although it was mainly about his playing/managing days based on what I saw on Twitter. I refuse to visit the DM site or link to it so have a search on Google.

Saturday 3rd December - Channel 5

Football on 5

George Riley and Lynsey Hipgrave presented alongside Chris Gunter and Steve Evans

Norwich City v Brentford - Paul Walker
Nottingham Forest v Newcastle United (Friday) - Daniel Mann and Andy Hinchcliffe, with David Craig conducting interviews (as Sky Sports)
Leeds United v Aston Villa - Daniel Mann and Danny Higginbotham, with Jonathan Oakes conducting interviews (as Sky Sports)

Championship round-ups - Dave Beckett, Matt Williams and John Anderson

The latter two reporters voiced the action from the two games in League Two. Thursday night's QPR v Wolves game was the last game included in the final Championship round-up.

Fair play to Chris Gunter for fronting up after scoring an own goal in Reading's 5-0 defeat at Fulham!

More often than not, when it's been three Sky games, it's been Leslie who's done it this season. I can only think of once it's been Parry which was recent.

Could Jonathan Pearce have creamed himself over Arsenal anymore on MOTD?

I did like the bit after Ox's goal where he went 'Best goal of the day' and then during the replay 'Sanchez's first goal was maybe better'.
Motson was similar from memory on the Chelsea/Everton game a few weeks ago.

To be fair to Pearce, BT were pretty effusive about Sanchez's performance.

BT's coverage of the game was good - though could've done with slightly less focus on Andy Carroll. He was probably featured less when he actually came on then he was on the bench .

Controversial view probably here but while we've often criticised BT's choice of 'young' personnel on here I do sort of see the argument for it.

Watched both the BT game and MOTD and the BT line-up certainly felt more current and as if they'd know more about how the modern game operates and about certain players still in action (whether that's actually the case or not).
Whereas Shearer and Sutton both in grey V-necks doesn't exactly give the same impression (especially when Sutton usually is a misery)

I'm not trying to criticise experienced pundits by any means - for example Lee Dixon retired 14 years ago and is one of the best pundits around and when he appears as a pundit Gordon Straachan is very fortright but also entertaining. Sir Jimmy Armfield too is an absolute joy to listen too on the radio and I always enjoy David Pleat popping.

Also, not all pundits recently retired from the game are fantastic (hello Ryan Giggs) and they can be prone to not criticising old teammates which is a drawback.

However, being recently retired certainly does make a pundit more liable to give insights on modern tactics and certain players than someone who's been retired longer.

While I mention MOTD from last night, it's interesting to note their move too to a younger group of pundits like Kilbane, Jenas, Phil Neville etc. after criticism of the show previously being a bit of an old boys club.

At the end of the day though, if the pundits are good whether they're 40 or 80 I'm happy.

I think Adam Summerton could be a future number 1 commentator on PL games, he's already called a fantastic goal 30 seconds into this game and is really enjoyable to listen to. Chris Perry is very good as well, works very well with Summerton on European games.

I think that is a good call, a up and coming YOUNG commentator would fit nicely with the way BT work, for sure he could easily take over any of the decent games Darke may be getting thats if off course Darke is still there next season.
