Chris Hollins - has he presented much for BT before? I know it's pre-season so various unusual personnel often appear and not much should be read into it but surprised to see him there.
Yes he's a semi-regular member of their rugby team.

I did enjoy Jeff Stelling's dig at BT on Saturday, just as I enjoyed James Richardson's 'Home of Football' dig at Sky a couple of years ago.

The Radio Times confirms Mark Pougatch is presenting the Champions League qualifier highlights for ITV so think we can safely say he'll be continuing with those commitments. From memory Pougatch did say he'd be doing some midweek presenting for 5 Live but I got the sense it would be occasional/cover rather than being a permanent part of the schedule.

As for Football Matters, I loved that programme! I think the audience worked because at times it was genuinely funny/entertainment so there was something to react to, whereas most other times an audience have been used it's either been a straighter, more formal type of programme (live matches and so on) or any 'banter' has felt very forced. From memory, some of the audience were on regularly throughout the season so a sense of continuity was built up and they tended to ask reasonable questions of the panellists. At the time though not too many football shows had had an audience though so it wasn't something that was ever really analysed - it felt right to have to have an audience, just as it did on shows like Top Gear or Fantasy Football.

Well the football league did not tender for competition in the last tv rights so BT Sport could not bid.

BT Sport are not ITV digital as BT won't go bust

For those interested (particularly those with the peculiar obsession with Gary Neville's "failure" as a manager) Neville, Carragher and Souness are on SSN HQ from 11am.

They have to promote sky's live rights

I don't watch live games to hear what pundits think

You do know that I posted this for the benefit of the whole community, not just for you?

You do know that, yes?

There's no live match involved, btw. It's a discussion-based review of the upcoming PL season and considering the fascination about Gary Neville on this thread (including from you) I thought it would be of interest.

BT Live/SportsHUB/ Football Tonight - that show was basically the football coverage equivalent of the Sugababes.

Bit surprised that it wasn't Lynsey Hipgrave to be honest - especially since she did FLT last night and seems to present quite a lot of BT Football. But as said, it's pre-season so anyone and everyone can and do appear.

While I didn't see Stelling's thing to be fair to Jeff, BT are known to shoot their mouths off a fair bit and it sounds like it was just a bit of fun from Jeff more than anything. And all the broadcasters do it.
And he's partly right to be fair - it doesn't say much for BT's score service if they're not covering the first Football League weekend.

Have to say FNF seems almost certain to be from the Sky Studios - given Jeff has Soccer Saturday the next day, Rachel Riley is doing 'Fantasy Football Club' and the fact it sounds like we may have 'celebrities' involved it'd just be a bit odd frankly to have it from the ground instead of Sky Studios.
Wouldn't be surprised if they use the SNF studio either.
I have never watched it but always presumed fantasy football club was pre recorded, take it that it is live then? (suppose makes sense if Merson already in London for soccer Saturday)

It has been usually recorded on the Thursday. Whether this changes this season, I have no idea

We haven't had many details actually on the show that follows the Saturday evening coverage - I saw BT advertise it as 'coming up' but haven't actually heard much about it/who it involves etc. whereas much of the focus on here is on the Live Scores program.
The show will be called 'Premier League Tonight' hosted by Jake and involving the pundits who were part of the PL coverage

The FFC started off live during the first season or two but then moved back into Thursday afternoon recordings.

Saturday 6th August - Channel 5

Football on 5

George Riley and Lynsey Hipgrave presented alongside Michael Gray and Chris Iwelumo

Nottingham Forest v Burton Albion - Paul Walker
Fulham v Newcastle United (Friday) - Daniel Mann and Andy Hinchcliffe, with David Craig conducting post-match interviews (as Sky Sports)

Championship round-ups - Dave Beckett, Dan O'Hagan, Dan Mason and Faye Carruthers
League One and Two round-ups - Dan O'Hagan, Dan Mason, Nick Halling, Jack Woodward, Faye Carruthers and Dave Beckett

The pundits-voice-the-goals edits made an unwelcome return, with Michael Gray voicing Blackburn Rovers v Norwich City and Chris Iwelumo handling Rotherham United v Wolverhampton Wanderers.

I was really pleased to hear Jack Woodward making his debut as a voiceover reporter on Football on 5. For those who are not familiar with him, he was Aston Villa's club commentator for many years but was made redundant at the end of last season due to budget cuts upon the club's relegation. I actually mentioned in the Radio Football Commentators thread late last season that I felt he'd be a good fit for the Football League highlights, as he has a nice turn of phrase and a good sense of humour that, combined with a solid knowledge of football at that level, make for a good reporter on these kind of shows. I enjoyed his debut on the show.

Good also to hear Nick Halling returning to terrestrial Football League highlights. He was a regular on BBC One's Football League Show for its first few seasons before going full-time as Sky Sports' lead boxing commentator. Reportedly he too has been let go from that role over the summer, so I'm glad to see him finding work so quickly after this. All in all, Football on 5 made a strong return with Lynsey Hipgrave having a good rapport with the other members of the team. A nice first show back.

Geoff Shreeves with Gary Neville, JaNeville's penalty was really bad - I'm mie Carragher, Jamie Redknapp, Graeme Souness, Thierry Henry, Niall Quinn and Paul Merson.

Commentary by Martin Tyler and Alan Smith.
Neville's penalty was really bad - I'm sure some will argue Neville is now in no position to analyse penalty takers.

Jeff Stelling said Chris Kamara will be reporting live from stadiums on Friday Night Football. He mentioned it would be a more light-hearted show but emphasised the game was still the most important part and it wasn't a comedy show.

Really? that remains to be seen, i cant help feeling its going to be anything but that.

Glad this sort of set up isn't on BT or even ITV, it would be getting slated by now.

The thing is Sky have the right people to make an entertaining presentation of football actually work. Jeff Stelling and Kammy are both very popular with viewers and I think Rachel Riley seems like a good signing although I await to see her role in the show. It has more promise than smarmy Jake on BT or 'Fletch & Sav'. Sky got the entertainment formula badly wrong by putting Jones on SNF initially with the audience but FNF seems promising to me.

I guess BT Score wil also cover the FA Cup, because of Sky not having rights to the FA Cup, Sky have struggled

I can tick that off my 'football commentators thread' bingo card.

Just got 'Off-tube Speight', 'That's the way they do things on BT Sport'' and '100mph Fletch' to tick off now the card now.

As ever, let's wait to see the shows before we start totally writing them off.
Though have to say of all the new shows Sky's Saturday lunchtime show and BT's 'Premier League Tonight' show actually sound the most promising (even if given BT's usual patience with feature shows PLT could well be hooked off-screen half way through the season or rebranded every 2 seconds).

Have to say yesterday must be one of the few occasions in thread history where Fletch and Macca got no criticism whatsoever while Jeff Stelling did. I think that's more done to the competition in terms of live sport than anything else. I'm sure the next 9 months will readdress that though.

Neville's penalty was really bad - I'm sure some will argue Neville is now in no position to analyse penalty takers.

I'm not sure many English players are in a position to talk with authority about penalties.

I've just caught up with this season's first edition of the National League Highlights Show on the BT Sport YouTube channel. Natalie Quirk presented in-vision from the Gallagher Stadium, where Adam Summerton and Adam Virgo commentated on Maidstone United v York City. Dan Mason and Helen Austin reported on the 11 other games.

Indeed, with the new BT graphics as well. John Still's interview both looked and sounded as if it had been recorded on somebody's phone. Whoever's operating the camera at Wrexham needs to fiddle with the settings to remove the field-removed business.

FNF to me sounds like a really diverse and different show. Soccer Saturday Lite with a game around it. To me sounds good.

I've said before but Kammy is a fantastic co-commentator back in the FL days. I think him as a reporter could be good! I think he should still be doing co-commentarys outwith Soccer Saturday.

That won't be a pleasant listen given how poor Pleat's pronunciations are of ... basically anyone on the pitch.
