Correct details input, as AH did the Hull v Manchester City game for Sky Sports.
Must have been a very last minute change; even the voiceover for the Premier League Review show this morning on BT Sport said it was AH as co-commentator of the Leicester-Everton game...

Important info out the way first - Ray Parlour and Dean 'Deano' Saunders were the guests on bwfcol's favourite football show on SSNHQHDPLDAILY.

A better game than I thought, partly helped by Mr Gomes Good stuff from the two Alan's. They work very well together. I'd guess Leslie at Hull, Hawthorne at Anfield and Tyler at Southampton.
Didn't hear much of the commentary (was heading to a 3pm game) but do think Alan Smith does a fantastic job.
He, Davie Provan and Andy Hinchcliffe are very strong on co-commentary week in week out.

Come on! If everyone else was having a day off... Surely that would include the sponsor... Just imagine it... "Dwight Yorke's Football Special!"
Dwight Yorke Live I'll have you know. Can't be getting the Sky branding wrong now can we?

Nissan Football Special - Watford vs Crystal Palace

Presenter: Dwight Yorke
Pundits: Dwight Yorke
Commentators: Dwight Yorke
Play by play (WTF is this?): Dwight Yorke

Reporter: Dwight Yorke

Play-by-Play? Can only assume that's the role Sky have on some games (the bigger ones) where as well as the main commentators either Carragher or Redknapp are also on the gantry and come in every so often with thoughts.

And for it to really count he'll be the only pundit.
Sounds like Sky really let me down there.
I could forgive them a lot - whatever FNF is meant to be, ridiculous 'slogans' for matches, even getting rid of 'Inner Smile' as the League Cup Music.

But not using Dwight Yorke on Boxing Day though really is the last straw.

Up until MOTD, Boxing Day coverage was disappointingly competent compared to the diabolical Boxing Day coverage we got last year from BT.
Assume after last night's MOTD that Gazza1992 is now boycotting BBC as well as ITV.

It wouldn't be this thread without a geography based Tweet, late KO in Hull to early KO in Brighton for Andy, bit of a journey to be fair as not an obvious flight route either

Again, I doubt Andy was supposed to be co-comm last night up here in Hull. I wonder who pulled out. Somebody northern based?

Dwight Yorke Live sounds like something ITV would do just as a general chat show idea!

Play-by-play is a more American term used for a lead commentator. With colour commentator the co-comm.

Why do you think that? He's done plenty of PL games

It does seem a bit odd that he'd be originally picked to do a game in the North East yesterday and then Brighton this lunchtime - as you mentioned. Which I assume is what Cardio is getting at.
I think IC89 mentioned too that the generic PL Review show said he was doing the Leicester game on Boxing Day (which we know he wasn't).

Does seem like whoever was going to co-commentate didn't for whatever reason - which happens with coverage with pundits/commentators etc. - and Andy Hinchcliffe stepped in.

In any case, always good to hear more of Andy Hinchcliffe - a thread favourite.

On the latter, indeed it is. I was just trying to make sense of whatever it was in the thing bwfcol had posted.

A bit of a shocker there!

Has Martin Fisher done a live Sky game before?

I've always found Fisher to be best of bbc freelancers (after contracted or to some extent contracted team of mowbray Pearce Wilson and brotherton)

Much better than bower and weaver imho, so hoping he goes well

Still not overly impressed by Scott Minto. Bland, boring

Maybe Fisher is a late replacement but Sky have Crocker, Keatings & Palmer who could all have done this game. I like Fisher but just seems odd!

Now that's surprising!

Not sure I've heard him alongside a co-comm before. I like Higginbotham - in fact, I'm not sure there's a Sky co-comm I don't like. Strength in depth.

Palmer is usually used after Leslie, Mann and Weaver. Palmer was at Hull yesterday watching as a fan so wouldn't have been too far away to travel to this.

He is by far the weakest part of Sky's FL coverage for me.

I just wonder if Fisher will soon be a regular on Sky's EFL coverage? Sky have used to normally have 3 commentators however since Leslie's promotion to Premier League games it's been Weaver and Mann commentating on most of the games with Leslie and Palmer on the occasional game, the latter normally on League 1/2 games.

It's been quite a busy schedule as well with a fair few games over the Christmas so perhaps Mann has decided he doesn't want to this many games over a short period. I can understand this decision because he and Weaver did nine out of the ten '10 In 10' games combined, for either commentator that seems a bit of an overkill.

So perhaps Sky are starting to look for a third regular commentator and the question is why other Sky regulars couldn't do this match, Ian Crocker is regularly commentating for the world feed on PL games and SPL for Sky which rules him out and Keatings/Palmer are on a break from La Liga games so Sky thought it was best to go for a freelancer. I think Fisher would be a great choice as the number 3 Sky EFL commentator, I could see him doing a fair few games including League 1/2 games even if it means Palmer get demoted a bit.

David Jones with Jamie Carragher at Anfield per David's Twitter. If there is any chance of Dwight Yorke appearing, it's tomorrow.
