Why didn't either Rob Hawthorne or Andy Hinchcliffe mention the possibility of a red card when it was a foul that denied a goal-scoring opportunity? Maybe both were confused because a shot was taken after the foul was committed!
Possibly due to the change in the laws of the game to remove the triple punishment.

Ordinarily now, the award of a penalty will negate a red card for preventing a goal scoring chance. It should be a yellow card. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36047575

Which is not relevant in this situation as the offence was holding/pulling the arm, which as stated in the article you reference is still a red card. Andy Hinchcliffe did make reference to this in the commentary, although Rob Hawthorne seemed a bit confused still. Shame the game wasn't on BT

I'm even more surprised they didn't mention the fact the foul actually occurred outside the box.

I don't think Hawthorne was confused, more that he was questioning the length of time it took for the card to be produced and the possibility that it wasn't for the foul but something the player said. Hawthorne mentioned the rule change and Hinchcliffe then went on to say that as it wasn't an attempt to play the ball that the red card is correct. This is correct.

The only surprising factor as you say is that at no point was it even suggested by either commentator that the foul may have been outside the box.

ITV4 defently have the rights to AFCON 2017, I'm not sure if Eurosport have it as well though, some reports say they have it while others say Eurosport is not showing it. Has someone got a provisional schedule to see if Eurosport are showing it?

Think thats rubbish info from that paper, if you can call it a paper that is.

Eurosport have rights for 2017 and 2019 according to sportspro

Also, a goal-scoring opportunity wasn't denied as Alli got a shot away so a yellow card would be sufficient. Expect an appeal will be made.

There's 3 or 4 names on those lists I've never heard of!

Who's JP Dellacamera, Andres Cantor or Phil Schoen?

Good to see Jon Champion right up there on both lists. No.1 for me.
It's an American site which should explain the confusion..

It was more than just "insulting ITV" from what I remember. He constantly accused Arius of being a liar (something about off tube commentary IIRC) and was just plain rude when the rest of the forum was grateful for any inside info provided.

I remember Hallrose used to post on here too sometimes - his posts were always interesting given he worked at Sky. Haven't seen him posting in a while.

Like everyone else I very much have enjoyed Peter Brackley's contributions to the threads over the years - warm, interesting and entertaining posts. Hope he and his wife are doing well.

To add more to the surprise of Martin Fisher doing a live Sky game, I believe it was simply very late cover for Daniel Mann.

Mann was also due to be doing the Man Utd v Middlesbrough match on Saturday but there has now been a bit of a reshuffle and he is replaced by Bill Leslie. BL was originally to do the Chelsea v Stoke game, Rob Palmer will now do that. But I think we all enjoyed the speculation!

So Weaver or Leslie tonight then?

Slightly surprised as I expected Leslie to do Hull/Everton. He seemed to be getting most of the third game in three game weekends with Tyler and Hawthorne.

Not for me! Andy Townsend is on 5Live tonight doing Villa/Leeds. He's with Conor McManara.

I thought it was a very good commentary from Rob/Andy last night. I think the red card confused many but other than that, I enjoyed it. Shame the studio stuff wasn't great.

Agreed, apart from on the red card I really enjoy hawthorne and hinchcliffe. Hinchcliffe perhaps after a goal goes to in depth analysis too quickly but minor point.

Probably level with Smith for me, behind neville

He's certainly becoming the next Ian Holloway, not quite the 10 in 10 though.
