SS are a disgrace in mocking the referee

The west ham player was right to be sent off as his studs went into jones

Good to see some honest punditry from Quinn and Smith at HT. Mike Dean is a joke.

Incredible stuff at half time by Smith and Quinn.

Who says Quinn sits on the fench?

And Quinn's trending. I hope positively for once.
Some of Sky's bigger names get most of the attention most of the time but very good stuff by Niall

Ever heard of opinions? That's why they are paid to be professional pundits..

He does more than other pundits I think

3 live games for Sky and little or no entertainment in any of them today

Sky showing replays whilst the ball is in play yet again.

Probably came across wrong - I agree he does sit on the fench at times so it was a bit tongue-in-cheek as in that this was an occassion he certainly didn't do so.

That said in defence of Quinn I don't think it's always necessary to have a very strong opinion. Some pundits at times could probably do with having more nuanced views.

I do rather like Quinn as a pundit to be honest - especially when discussions turn to running a club where he can speak with much more authority than many other pundits

Quinn's a much better pundit that co-comm.

I've always enjoyed Quinn as a pundit. Never as a commentator though

Here's what Quinn, Smith and Neville said.

Sometimes I give him the benefit of the doubt; in this case he has once again got me to react and I hate myself for it. One or 5 of these might explain it though

They didn't "mock" the referee. It was a shocking decision, that was not a red card challenge. If it was then Phil Jones should've gone too. Yes the studs connected but both went for the ball in an honest challenge. Red cards like this one are killing the game as we know (knew) it.

The actual red card challenge came at 0-0 in the second half. The nation stopped production for a week to discuss a similar Rojo challenge that didn't actually connect with the player; this one will be forgotten about and everyone will only see the injustice in the first half red card and say the 2-0 was down to the referee.

2-1 would've been fair (despite the offside).

Even those of us watching international coverage are forced to endure this (and the constant, sudden, sideline closeups which causes a lack of perspective). The sooner we can choose a clean feed - on the red button or even online - in this country the better.

Great line from Paul Walker on Football on 5 as QPR took the lead against Ipswich - "Surprise surprise it's Sylla again!"

Sky will again be delighted with their pundits/staff today following on from the Neville Vs Liverpool debacle.

Rob Palmer got into a prickly interview with the Manchester City manager and continued to ask questions Pep didn't want to entertain. Then, Alan Smith, Niall Quinn and Gary Neville laid into the officials at the West Ham vs Man Utd game with the latter further lambasting them invision at full time.

Stories which will undoubtedly make tomorrow's papers.

To help all insomniacs Curbishley is on Match Choice at 11 to review all the goals of the day. Good to see Sky using such current talent.

Pep was the same with Damian Johnson too. Rob Palmer tweeted about Pep saying to him and Johnson after that "it wasn't personal."

The officials were poor but once again influenced by a player rolling around on the floor with his team mates rushing to the red demanding a card..

No real excuse on the offside goal but I do tend to find assistants are actually worse than that the refs..

BTW in other sports pundits are honest and say it as they saw it so it's quite refreshing to have some in football who don't just toe the party line.

Monday 2nd January - Channel 5

Football on 5

George Riley and Lynsey Hipgrave presented alongside Michael Gray and Chris Iwelumo

Blackburn Rovers v Newcastle United - Gary Weaver and Don Goodman, with Jonathan Oakes conducting interviews (as Sky Sports)
Queens Park Rangers v Ipswich Town - Paul Walker

Championship round-ups - Tom Skippings, Dan O'Hagan, Nick Halling, Faye Carruthers and Oliver Wilson
League One round-ups - Tom Skippings, Will Cope, Dan O'Hagan, Oliver Wilson, Faye Carruthers and Nick Halling
League Two round-ups - Faye Carruthers, Tom Skippings, Oliver Wilson, Will Cope and Nick Halling

Michael Gray (minus the full beard he was sporting on New Year's Eve) talked over the action from Fulham v Brighton & Hove Albion, while Chris Iwelumo spoke over Birmingham City v Brentford. So two pundits-describe-the-action edits to make up for the lack of one on NYE. Great.

With just 11 Football League games taking place at the weekend, there's no Football on 5 on Saturday, but there will be an EFL Cup highlights show at 10.45pm on Wednesday week.

What an awful bunch, what SKY were thinking hiring Cates I can't think. Goodman and Weaver just terrible individually and together.

How many live Sky PL games has Ian Crocker done? Must be in single figures?
