In other news, BT this week are showing FA Cup Classics, which started today. They're all (so far) ITV footage, with a complete edit in one half hour programme. Today we got four semi-finals from the seventies and also Wrexham vs Arsenal from 1978, which I was especially interested in seeing as I'd never seen it before, but BT were running half an hour late so I only recorded the first two minutes and it doesn't look like they're showing that one again. Gaaahh!

All Brian Moore commentaries so far, with original cardboard graphics. Later in the week we go into the eighties, and there are some nineties and noughties ones billed as well, presumably using international feed commentary for those ones. Interesting to see, anyway.

Niall must be the only person watching this who thinks that Arsenal goal will be anything other than a consolation.

After a poor day yesterday Sky must be thrilled with this 6 goal thriller.
Could be 7 yet...

Some big news regarding Mike Phelan tonight.
Normally Sky break it instantly but they've not said a thing yet.

I go to nearly every Arsenal game but couldn't get a ticket tonight so unusually I was having to watch the game on TV tonight. Maybe I don't pay enough attention when I'm watching other games on TV - it is different when you're watching your team - but I thought Sky's coverage was dreadful. We seemed to miss so much because they were showing replays or cutaway shots of the crowd or the bench. We missed what led to the foul by Ramsey at the end of the first half, the move leading to Bournemouth's third goal, and the red card.

People ask me why I spend money and time travelling round the country watching Arsenal when you can watch it on TV. Well the main reason is that it's much better watching the game in person than on TV where you are at the mercy of the director.

As ever the 'Well this is a dull game' type of trick works a treat

Not the first time Arsenal have had a 3-3 thriller in January. This year Sky's turn after BT got lucky last year.

Some big news regarding Mike Phelan tonight.

To be fair the match had just ended so not surprised that they didn't manage to mention it. I'm sure they will before they go off air.

David Jones making a bit of a blunder there - suggesting the Palace/Swansea game was a draw rather than a Swansea win.

We already have our answer as to what Super Sunday will be called... "Merseyside v Manchester"

...because Everton are playing Man City and Man Utd-Liverpool... get it?

Two for the price of one. It's actually quite good I must say - it's almost as if they planned the fixtures this way.

Merseyside vs Manchester isn't too bad and probably used by other media outlets

Mario Melchiott and Nigel Winterburn on SSN earlier with the personalities of door handles

Nigel Winterburn is the chief arsenal pundit on Eir Sport's coverage of the champions league.

He is terrible

I thought that might be the case as soon as I knew GNev wasn't involved. Will it be Hawthorne or Tyler?

It's the least worst 'name' they've come up with and pretty easy for SSN presenters to use ad naeseum for the week beforehand (i.e. 'Ahead of the Merseyside v Manchester Super Sunday).

The fact it makes sense already makes it a vast improvement on 'ReUnited'.

That said the use of these names is still pointless. Unless Sky are planning on releasing a collection of PL games on Sky Box Sets at the end of the season.

I admire the fact the PL Daily updates seem to be continuing as 2017 begins.
You really have taken to it haven't you mate?

Just find some decent pundits! The premise of the show is good and getting people to do it everyday probably isn't easy but get some characters on!

The problem is as you say that these shows aren't going to get decent pundits in every day.

The pundits people would want to hear from (either because they are big names or have interesting views) are probably well-paid enough doing live games/newspaper columns etc. so don't need to or want to appear on a sports news channel at 10am in the morning.

It's the same issue BT had with their evening magazine programme which before being canned seemed to go through more name changes and presenters than the Sugababes have had line-ups.

That said the show probably does what SSN wants it to do - it's cheap and provides them with clips that they can replay throughout the day of what Gale/Parlour/ Merson/Yorke/Melchiot etc. think of Story X (whether anyone cares is beside the point).

As I mentioned before xmas obviously far more noticeable the amount of repurposed content is talking heads as guests earlier in the day. Cheap. Previous times gone by if SSN used any clips from guests in the studio earlier in the day they'd do it in away not to get the earlier presenter in shot... Now with their cutbacks they'll quite happily just play a 2-3 minute bit featuring the breakfast presenter or what not in an old natter with Dermot Gallagher or whatever.

Every hour this afo has had a big wasting of two minutes for a Sky boxing pundit getting a Poundland birthday cake and everyone in the studio singing 'happy birthday to you' *... Brilliant news like.

*I demand this next month here everyone.

I'd argue Thomas picked up the better games between he and Jones over the festive season.

I think games handed out based on location/timings, not sure you can read much into it
