BT Sport showing a programme called FA Cup Tonight after the Preston v Arsenal game. Will that be the same as PL Tonight but they'll be able to discuss with highlights? Haven't seen it before.

I think games handed out based on location/timings, not sure you can read much into it
They've alternated the past couple of days despite the games being presented from the south (Boro/Leicester was a studio job).

I'm not saying he's becoming number 1 etc, just that he got the better share.

I think Thomas probably has the main Bank Holiday/midweek gig that Jones used to have when Ed was number 1 (aside from the 2013/14 season when Ed did them all.)

At least Sky show more flexibility now. In the past they seemed to stick rigidly to people doing certain days regardless of if it meant one presenter having a packed schedule or the sensibility of doing it, such as in 2011/12 when there were three Bank Holiday Monday games in which Ed and Gary did a MNF with about 15 minutes build-up and when they were unable to show any of that day's goals, etc.)

I'd expect Thomas to probably do any midweek games later in the season (aside from if there are three successive days like there was towards the end of last season when Jones did Tuesday and Thursday and Ed did the Wednesday night.)

On the subject of Ed, can't remember if I mentioned it but it was really good to see him back on TV at the racing on Sunday. I know it doesn't seem likely anytime soon but I do hope he does some football for ITV at some point. It reminded me how much I miss him on Sky's coverage. Jones has done alright but shouldn't be Sky's number 1 in my opinion; being Sky's number 3 a few years ago felt right. I certainly think there are far stronger UK anchors than him - indeed I'm not even sure if he'd make my top ten (Ed, Mark Chapman, Gary Lineker, Mark Pougatch, Matt Smith, Jeff Stelling, Rebecca Lowe...). I have largely been impressed with Simon Thomas though, who I think has a bit more gravitas about him.

In other news, BT this week are showing FA Cup Classics, which started today. They're all (so far) ITV footage, with a complete edit in one half hour programme. Today we got four semi-finals from the seventies and also Wrexham vs Arsenal from 1978, which I was especially interested in seeing as I'd never seen it before, but BT were running half an hour late so I only recorded the first two minutes and it doesn't look like they're showing that one again. Gaaahh!

All Brian Moore commentaries so far, with original cardboard graphics. Later in the week we go into the eighties, and there are some nineties and noughties ones billed as well, presumably using international feed commentary for those ones. Interesting to see, anyway.
Not the whole thing but here's a news report with the goals

Thank you for that, although the two minutes I managed to get did include the pan across Wrexham town centre, which was alright. Actually it turns out we are getting BBC coverage as well, Millwall vs Arsenal yesterday including BBC graphics and Tony Gubba commentatary. And for those who take issue with the tiny TAG Hauer logo on Match of the Day, enormous Citizen Timing logos.

Every hour this afo has had a big wasting of two minutes for a Sky boxing pundit getting a Poundland birthday cake and everyone in the studio singing 'happy birthday to you' *... Brilliant news like.
I will refer you again to Saturday morning when they showed "highlights" from In Off The Bar from the previous night, including a keepie-up challenge with the comedian Iain Stirling. Sports news, there.

BT Sport showing a programme called FA Cup Tonight after the Preston v Arsenal game. Will that be the same as PL Tonight but they'll be able to discuss with highlights? Haven't seen it before.
They haven't done it before. Yes, almost certainly it's the exact same format as Premier League Tonight but with the FA Cup instead. Will be a bit interesting to see what Score do given that John Roder says he'll be reporting for it, presumably there'll be quite a few reporters.

On the subject of Ed, can't remember if I mentioned it but it was really good to see him back on TV at the racing on Sunday. I know it doesn't seem likely anytime soon but I do hope he does some football for ITV at some point.
Maybe, though as mentioned here before a lot of the football ITV has clashes with a lot of the big races - Royal Ascot and the Derby clash with the World Cup, for example. Although having said that, there was loads of F1 during the 2006 World Cup and they still parachuted Steve Rider in to do the football as well.

Anyway, here's this round of fixtures in full...

The Premier League on Sky Sports - Introduced by Simon Thomas with Niall Quinn and Alan Smith, Middlesbrough vs Leicester commentary by Ian Crocker and Davie Provan, West Ham vs Man U commentary by Bill Leslie and Gary Neville
Blackburn vs Newcastle - Introduced by Kelly Cates with Keith Andrews, commentary by Gary Weaver and Don Goodman
Dagenham vs Braintree - Introduced by Matt Smith with Mick Payne and Adam Virgo, commentary by Adam Summerton and Kevin Davies
Bournemouth vs Arsenal - Introduced by Dave Jones with Thierry Henry, commentary by Alan Parry and Niall Quinn
Spurs vs Chelsea - Introduced by Simon Thomas with Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and Graeme Souness, commentary by Martin Tyler and Alan Smith

Sky's first League Two game of the season tonight. Would have been an assignment for George Gavin so I wonder if they might spring a surprise by giving someone out of the ordinary a go. Will probably just be Minto though, especially seeing as he hasn't been called upon for over a week - and there's no more EFL games on for a few more days yet due to the FA Cup.

Think I've answered my own question but it would be nice to see a different face. Though, I suppose merely having a League Two game on is a change in itself! Still find it odd how fans of National League teams can enjoy better coverage (in terms of both quality and quantity) courtesy of BT than if you are following a League Two side.

It still amazes me that there's an English-language world feed for games like that.
