Everything you ever wanted to know about Mark Scott but were afraid to ask...
http://forums.digitalspy.co.uk/showp...postcount=3634 He's also doing the Paralympics, so indeed he won't be doing any football for a while. Forgot to say, the highlight of the weekend was Martin Fisher and John Roder in vision on Football Focus. |

I didn't want to start a separate thread for this but does anybody know if there'll be a "free" sports weekend on Sky/Pick or BT as there have been towards the start of previous seasons?

Thursday 18th August - BT Sport 2
Live UEFA Europa League Qualifier: Astra Giurgiu v West Ham United Lynsey Hipgrave presenting from the studio alongside Trevor Sinclair and David James Commentators: Ian Darke and Clive Allen I'm guessing they don't have a reporter out on site in Romania. |

So Ian Darke has confirmed on Twitter that he has no commentaries on Prem matches coming up for BT, i really find that quite amazing, so all of a sudden BT can use just one commentator for their games.
As Chris Kamara would say UNBELIEVABLE!! |

As Chris Kamara would say UNBELIEVABLE!! It's a massive shame for Darke though, and this is coming from someone who actually thinks Fletcher is fine |

As Chris Kamara would say UNBELIEVABLE!! I'm hoping he sees sense and jumps ship ASAP. Even if it means just doing PL intl feed and ESPN games for a season. Also - do Sky no longer send their own comms to the Sat 5.30pm games and just use world feed for FF? |

Des Kelly was there. Did he appear on air at any point?

Sky can't show the 5.30pm games on (the artist formerly known as) Football First. The rights extend only to matches that weren't shown live (with Sky also including highlights of their live game).

That is utter madness. Fletcher is at best o.k. He is nowhere near the same league as Darke, who is one of the best in the business. I don't understand why BT are doing this or what kind of audience research they are basing it on. It was bad enough to give the bigger games to fletcher in the second half of the season, but now to give him all their games is crazy. Such a waste having a suburb talent like Darke and giving him scraps. I can't understand it. Shocking stuff altogether. Fletcher must have some pull on someone high up in BT.
I think Darke ability of being a top class commentator should never come into doubt but im afraid i think he just doesn't fit in with this young guy's approach which BT have. All this silly nick name calling at times and silly banter over twitter isnt Darke's approach either but someone like Fletcher goes way over the top which is something clearly BT want. It must seem like a kick in the teeth for him but i really feel even if it was some like Tyler or even Parry BT would now be going down the same road. Wouldnt surprise me if this is his last season with them thats even if he lasts the season out as i doubt he is under contract with them so if a better offer comes up he would no doubt think about taking it. A shame really ESPN lost their prem rights as the States think the world of his commentaries, wouldn't take much to tempt him to commentate over there thats for sure. |

Firstly cant believe BT aren't going to be using Ian Drake for there PL Coverage, he is one of the best, certainly tops, ex Radio Phone In man.
SSNHQ have shown a clip from Tonight's Friday Night Football, i think they have paired Jeff and Rachel together, cause of there time presenting Countdown, seems like they have had some fun. Looks like Rachel will surprise us all, by bringing maths into it. For those who haven't seen a clue, you will see a Man U player in a perspective, that you have never seen before |

Good news
Everyone's favourite Robbie Savage is on Leicester vs Arsenal for BT tomorrow and not 606. Chris Waddle replaces him on 606. |

Fletcher's prominence is one of the worst broadcasting decisions I can think of in recent years. I'd not only say Darke is vastly superior but there are four or five other broadcasters BT use reasonably regularly who I rate as being a class above a man who has shown virtually no improvement in the last three years. Anyone have an idea of a good email address at BT to send feedback to?

Everyone's favourite Robbie Savage is on Leicester vs Arsenal for BT tomorrow and not 606. Chris Waddle replaces him on 606. After Waddle's 'They're a bunch of headphones' rant, he'll fit in perfectly on 606. Not great news on Savage - but to be expected I guess. I just hope he's left as a pundit rather than commentary. He was good at the Euros on commentary but at times he's been truly awful in some of the BT 3-man teams. On Darke, have to say I follow him on Twitter and haven't seen the tweet - any idea when it was posted?. Would be interesting to see it. I don't think he can mean the whole season - I mean BT have only announced games until the end of November and while I don't know much at all about commentary assignments I'm not even sure they'd know those up to then let alone to the end of the season. And it's important to remember there are plenty of international breaks coming up which makes any lack of games sound more dramatic than it is. 'No PL games for a month' on BT would actually probably mean just not doing 2 PL games. That said not a great decision if so. I thought the previous arrangement was quite good - Fletcher and Darke mainly splitting games so while Darke was Number 2 (and the merits or not of that have been discussed several times) he still got some good games. As others have said, Darke is a top-class commentator who deserves to be doing big games and it's a shame BT are seemingly demoting him. However, it's important to remember he will still be doing some form of CL and EL games. If he isn't doing any English team for those that is the point he should consider his options. That said Darke was in the opposite situation with Tyler back at the start of this thread 12 years ago and he's probably more than aware of what the commentary world is like than any of us are. These decisions certainly aren't helping Fletcher on here though. I don't think he's half as bad as he's made out to be on here but BT constantly pushing him over as high-quality an operator as Darke just leads to greater scrutiny and criticism on his commentaries. Doesn't help either that he's above Drury or the fantastic Derek Rae. Though let's be clear it's not just BT that rate him - once he was no longer able to do 606, 5Live made sure to accomodate him a new weekly slot in their schedule so they clearly rate him too. |

Perhaps Mr Brackley may bring us some insight here.
