Sometimes worry that this thread isn't the market for casual show like this... A bit like all of a sudden folk thing Soccer Saturday needs this whole refresh? Why? It works. It isn't stale. It is a happy medium of facts and a bit of humor. Plenty of football chat here on FNF with the Tubesy Soccer AM stuff... Latter hit and miss for some but will be popular enough for the demographic.

This setup seems far better than the cringe mate fest with Jake, Fletch and Sav.”

Don't remember anyone saying Soccer Saturday needs a refresh.
The only person was me and I deliberately said that the show was popular and does a fantastic job but that a few minor tweaks over time (emphasis on over time) in terms of say personnel might help keep the show fresh - which I think is merited. Just hypothetical examples but adding in Beagrie or Quinn every so often(know both have other commitments but using as an example) so it's not the same four every week is hardly suggesting it become football's Newsnight.

I mean the show was popular back in the Early Noughties but you don't have Frank Mclintock doing the show today.

Think it's a bit unfair too to say those who don't like it just don't like casual shows. I really like Soccer Saturday but find this try hard.

Emphasis on the fact here that I like Soccer Saturday and would hate it to change hugely

And have to admit I think the BT 'banter' thing is wildly overdone on here. Fletch and Sav is a totally separate show to the live match - and while the nickname calling may grate at times on the live coverage what's on the BT matches is mild compared to FNF.
And certainly the CL and EL coverage is a different kettle of fish to their PL coverage.

Kamara has been an excellent addition to the presentation team. His little off-the-cuff comments have been funny like to Forster telling him he's going to be busy tonight and telling Geoff Shreeves to "get out more".

Does seem like reputations go before what people actually do.

Jake seems to be the common target of the boo-boys whilst Jeff Stelling is the darling of the forum and people seem unable to pick any criticisms (even though certain other presenters would get slaughtered for calling any pundit 'mate').

Haven't watched any of the build up - but from you lot on here, it sounds horrible!

I might be in the minority but I quite liked the build up.

It is certainly better than Saturday Night Football. It strikes a good balance between relaxed but also still remembering it is about a football match. Some things can be tweaked like I think 60 minutes is plenty build up and 4 pundits felt a bit like too many. Personally if they were to have 4 pundits I would leave one of Redknapp, Carragher or Henry) at the touchscreen to provide some analysis every now and again. I would also try and give Riley something more to do, she hasn't added much what Jeff couldn't have done himself.

As I said I liked it, I don't think it is something that will ever be "must not miss" but if I have an interest I would watch it. I suppose it is Sky trying to get an identity for all its programming.

100% correct with those views.

Stelling, so far, has been truly awful tonight, needs to get behind his desk for soccer Saturday and quick!

I really am sturggling to find any reason why Rachel Riely is involved tonight, added nothing at all of any interest.
Can only think Sky played on the reputation they had on countdown to try and attract viewers for this show.

Obviously I didn't watch the show but it is the first one, it might develop over time and as some people have pointed out, this thread doesn't contain people Sky are after on this and even on here, reaction is mixed.

I agree

Sky should have copied when Jeff presented the champions league

Let's be honest, Stelling has never been brilliant at presenting live football.

It's never been his preference.

He said in his book that he by far and away prefers Soccer Saturday to live football.

Yep was pretty awful at times. Not to mention the crappy studio. Tried to make it more entertaining which is what I was hoping for but didn't deliver

Alan Smith was a part of Off The Bar as he travelled from Old Trafford via motorcycle to reach there. Sky are promoting it as a bit of a Soccer AM spin off on Twitter.

Really? i thought it was all very cringe worthy at times and well below Sky's normally good standards of football presentations.

They should move away quickly from this young person's approach it really dosnt suit them at all and was an awful attempt to do so.

As there are only 10 games on a Friday night, they should of just kept it like their midweek special matches, start 7.00-7.30, quick discussion and then into the football, probably would save them quite a bit of money as well.

Not really a defence though. If you don't like doing something or aren't very good at it, say no. Don't be railroaded into something that is so obviously not you, "mate".

I think we might be reading a bit too much into the Stelling quote- it may have been a one-off remark/ he may have changed his mind.

I agree re the studio. MNF appears to be the right size but Sky games look awful from FNF studio and its too big for match choice as well.

On music front, same music for FNF, Sat lunch and Super Sunday. Only MNF different.

All the below happened:
-A section broadcasting from a pub which had a woman asking Carragher and Redknapp when they have dinner.

-A whole section dedicated to Soccer AM's Tubes and Nathan Redmond dancing (followed by clips of footballers doing dancing celebrations and a Razor Ruddock strip tease from ALOTO)

-Kammy running about the MU dressing room before the teams arrived.

I'm choosing to leave out the in-studio banter too - which was a blatant transparent attempt to mimic BT and Soccer Saturday.

What I don't get is if Sky are after the more casual, fun-loving viewer for FNF, surely they'd actually be out on a Friday night rather than sitting in to watch the football?

And surely that sort of market is already well-covered by the likes of FFC, Soccer AM and Soccer Saturday?

I didn't catch much after kick-off- was watching the Olympics and out with friends - but for me the show seemed a mess and more Wimbledon 2Day than Soccer Saturday.

I mean doing one of the features mentioned above could possibly be fair enough but there was so many features and gimmicks that the bit I saw seemed more obsessed with 'Oh, look what Kammy's up to', 'oh look who Rachel and Jeff were with' than the actual match coming up.
What makes Soccer Saturday work so well is while it's still a relaxed show and has plenty of jokes and banter at the end of the day giving the scores is the total focus of the show. I always worry whenever gimmicks start getting thrown into a show - at the end of the day people who are tuning in for live sport want to watch live sport.

Though if they do want to stick with this type of show then they really should just go all in and have the Soccer Saturday crew as pundits.

It's only the first show though so you hope over time they lose some of the gimmicks, cut the show length a little - and reduce the headcount on the show significantly.

The thing I find odd is that the BT studio looks equally (if not more) big but never gets anywhere near the criticism that the FNF/SNF studio does. Do BT just use the studio better?

On the subject of BT, Intriguing line-up for BT Score today.
Harry Kewell, 'Arry Redknapp, Paul Ince, Dion Dublin and Rachel Brown-Finnis.

Have to say Brown-Finnis is an inspired choice - she was good on the Euros last year for BBC and it's interesting to see a female pundit on the male coverage.

PL Live: Stoke v Manchester City (Sky Sports 1/HD

Simon Thomas presenting in the Brittania Stadium studio with Niall Quinn and Graeme Sounness.

Thread might be interested to know Jon Champion commentary was very prominent in the opening package just then. Rare to hear a non-Sky commentator in one of the packages, isn' it?

Lots of people are going out later and later so the target audience wouldn't necessarily already be out. Plus said people wouldn't be out every Friday night.

I don't think there was any need to sit calling each other mate and Carra but it really wasn't as bad as some people made out and it seems to have split the forum on here.
