I think the studio discussion for the game and on PLT was excellent however. I mentioned it was a shame Scholes hadn't been on, tonight he was back, and I do feel like he is one of BT's better voices. Ferdinand is BT's main man and they were both good today.
Commentary wasn't brilliant. Hargreaves is competent but is better suited to the studio. Francis sounds like an old man who has lost his mind at times and probably should be moved away from commentary in the future. Actually wouldn't mind to hear Ferdinand have a go on the mic but I doubt BT would take the risk of their main man in case he flopped (which he could well do). Agree on those calling for Don Hutchinson to have a promotion. Definitely a more assured voice than any other on BT.”
Co-commentary as ever an issue at BT. I've made this point a few times but comparing Sky and BT in that regard is chalk and cheese. Being blunt all 6 of BT's co-commentators for differing reasons are varying degrees of awful at the role (at least on BT) whereas Sky's main 6 are all at worst good and at best outstanding. BT must be doing something wrong with co-commentary.
That's not to say all BT's six are bad full stop - far from it as Hargreaves in particular is fantastic in the studio and Hoddle and Mcmanaman also have much to offer - but they're not much good at co-commentary.
Agreed on Ferdinand and Hutchinson - Ferdinand is worth a try I think and I can imagine him being good (let's face it it's hard to be worse than some of the more terrible BT efforts) and Hutchinson is strong in the role.
In fact there are plenty of good co-commentators around - the likes of Kilbane, Hutchinson, Beglin or even Ally Mccoist have all been used by BT in the past and would immediately improve the co-commentary.
That said the 3-man team in its present form simply has to go. It's even more odd too that it's only used on the Premier League - as if even BT don't seem that confident in it. I actually think the way Sky are using of a 'third man' would work on BT if you were to bring in one or two of those mentioned above.
On Humphrey, he really is awful to watch. Maybe he wouldn't have stuck out as much a few years ago when we had Chiles and Murray as main football hosts but now he sticks out like a shore thumb. For me, he's the worst of the BT presenters by a distance (Lineker, Hipgrave, Richardson and Smith are all as capable and much more knowledgable and likable) yet seems to be their main face.

There were certainly some elements I could have done without, and I agree the pub thing was one of the worst things I've seen on Sky, but I think I prefer this to just a bland midweek special approach. Will be interesting to see how it works for Chelsea v Liverpool though - you might normally expect Souness and Neville to be involved in such a big game, but not sure I can imagine Souness in that studio or Neville riding on a motorbike to do a Gary quiz in a pub!”
I disagree on the pub show.
Along with BT's approach a while back of 'presenting outside the stadium post-match' it has huge potential for must-watch car crash TV. 10.45pm on Friday in a pub after a home defeat - what could go wrong?
For that alone I hope it remains for a while.
By any other measure, it's a horrific idea. Goodness knows what went on in the meeting where it was approved.

And yes, the World Feed does have a decent set of commentators, Drury, Champion, Proudfoot, Tyler (Monday nights mainly) and now Darke back there. I hope ID is on at least 1 game a week in future.”
Interestingly I was on another website and saw quite a lot of criticism for this 'Goal Rush' programme. It sounds as if it starts on one game and stays on that throughout but then flips to other games whenever anything happens (keeping the game they're showing in the corner). Which sounds an utter pain if you want to actually watch the main game.
Not sure how accurate the above is but surprised as these sorts of shows seem to always get a lot of praise on here.
As P,U.L.S.E mentioned, Alan Shearer popped up on PLP for the Sunday matches yesterday. I seem to say this weekly but PLP viewers really do seem to do well - a nice mix of pundits, their 'regulars' are highly capable and there's much less of the nonsense we sometimes have to endure from BT and Sky.
